Claims
- 1. An information processing apparatus capable of connecting a plurality of types of printers including an ink-jet printer and for producing recording data to be supplied to one of the plurality of types of printers and supplying the recording data to the one of the plurality of types of printers, said apparatus comprising:
- connection means for electrically connecting the one of the plurality of types of printers through a cable;
- discrimination means for discriminating a type of the one of the plurality of types of printers connected to said connection means;
- selection means for, when said discrimination means discriminates that the type of printer comprises an ink-jet printer, selecting whether an ink fixing time is to be effected;
- setting means for, when said selection means selects that the ink fixing time is to be effected, setting a duration of the ink fixing time; and
- control means for controlling a supply of the recording data to the connected one of the plurality of printers in accordance with the ink fixing time set by said setting means.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:
- input means for inputting the type of the one of the plurality of printers connected to said connection means,
- wherein said discrimination means discriminates the type of printer connected in accordance with the type of printer input by said input means.
- 3. An apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:
- a display unit for displaying recording data to be supplied to the one of the plurality of types of printers connected to said connecting means.
- 4. An apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said selection means and said setting means utilize said display unit.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus has a facsimile function of receiving transmission data, and outputs the transmission data as the recording data to the connected printer.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus has a copy function of reading an original and outputs the read data as the recording data to the connected printer.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus has a wordprocessing function of receiving data input from a keyboard and outputs the input data as the recording data to the connected printer.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein when the connected printer comprises an ink-jet printer, a recording head of the ink-jet printer comprises a plurality of ejection ports for ejecting an ink, and heat energy generation means, arranged for each of the corresponding ejection ports, for causing a change in state of the ink by heat, causing the ejection ports to eject the ink based on the change in state, and forming flying droplets.
- 9. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein when said discrimination means discriminates a thermal transfer printer, said selection means selects whether a recording density is to be controlled, and
- said setting means allows setting of a recording density when said selection means selects that the recording density is to be controlled.
- 10. An apparatus according to claim 9, wherein said apparatus supplies a density command to the connected printer in accordance with the recording density set by said setting means.
- 11. An information processing method capable of connecting a plurality of types of printers including an ink-jet printer and for producing recording data to be supplied to one of the plurality of types of printers and supplying the recording data to the one of the plurality of types of printers, said method comprising the steps of:
- electrically connecting the one of the plurality of types of printers through a cable;
- discriminating a type of the one of the plurality of types of printers;
- selecting, when the type of printer is discriminated to comprise an ink-jet printer in said discriminating step, whether an ink fixing time is to be effected;
- setting, when effecting of the ink fixing time is selected in said selecting step, a duration of the ink fixing time; and
- controlling a supply of the recording data to the connected one of the plurality of printers in accordance with the ink fixing time set in said setting step.
- 12. A method according to claim 11, further comprising:
- inputting the type of the one of the plurality of printers connected in said connecting step, wherein
- discriminating the type of printer connected is discriminated in said discriminating step in accordance with the type of printer input in said input step.
- 13. A method according to claim 11, further comprising:
- displaying on a display unit recording data to be supplied to the one of the plurality of types of printers connected in said connecting step.
- 14. A method according to claim 13, wherein the display unit is utilized in said selecting step and said setting step.
- 15. A method according to claim 11, wherein said method has a facsimile function of receiving transmission data, and outputting the transmission data as the recording data to the connected printer.
- 16. A method according to claim 11, wherein said method has a copy function of reading an original and outputting the read data as the recording data to the connected printer.
- 17. A method according to claim 11, wherein said method has a wordprocessing function of receiving data input from a keyboard and outputting the input data as the recording data to the connected printer.
- 18. A method according to claim 11, wherein a recording head of the ink-jet printer connected in said connecting step comprises a plurality of ejection ports for ejecting an ink, and heat energy generation means, arranged for each of the corresponding ejection ports, for causing a change in state of the ink by heat, causing the ejection ports to eject the ink based on the change in state, and forming flying droplets.
- 19. A method according to claim 11, wherein when said discrimination step discriminates a thermal transfer printer, said selection step selects whether a recording density is to be controlled, and
- said setting step allows setting of a recording density when said selection step selects that the recording density is to be controlled.
- 20. A method according to claim 19, wherein said method supplies a density command to the connected printer in accordance with the recording density set in said setting step.
