- 1. A multi-session information recording apparatus comprising:means for discriminating between a wo (write-once) type information recording medium and a rewritable type information recording medium; control means for controlling each of said WO type information recording medium and said rewritable type information recording medium, display means for displaying a discriminating result obtained from said discriminating means, means for searching an address of a recording area in said information recording medium; and means for detecting an unrecorded state on said information recording medium, and wherein when said recording medium is the WO type information recording medium, wherein said means for searching further includes a processing of searching a final recording area that is started such that searching proceeds from the beginning of an address of a recording area recorded in a first lead-in area of said information recording medium to subsequent recording areas, and wherein when said unrecorded state is detected by said detecting means, said processing of searching of said final recording area is finished so that a final recording area is determined based on the detection of said unrecorded state on said information recording medium and a file managing information recorded on said final recording area is obtained.
- 2. A multi-session information recording method comprising the steps of:discriminating between a WO (write-once) type information recording medium and a rewritable type information recording medium; controlling each of said Wo type information recording medium and said rewritable type information recording medium, displaying a discriminating result obtained from said discriminating means, searching for an address of a recording area in said information recording medium; detecting an unrecorded state on said information recording medium; when said recording medium is the WO type information recording medium, searching subsequent recording areas beginning at an address of a recording area recorded in a first lead-in area of said information recording medium; and when said unrecorded state is detected by said detecting means, searching of the subsequent recording area is finished so that a final recording area is determined and a file managing information recorded at said final recording area is obtained.
