Claims
- 1. An information transfer system, comprising:a transmitter for transmitting a signal through a transfer medium, the signal contains main data and sub data, the sub data includes coded text lines containing character codes that represent corresponding displayable text characters and includes in-line control codes, and the transmitter includes multiplexer means for forming the coded text lines containing the in-line control codes mixed with the character codes; a receiver for receiving the signal from the transfer medium, the receiver includes: a display for presenting the text characters represented by the character codes, the display has one or more display lines; and a display controller for controlling the presentation of the text characters on the display lines depending on the in-line control codes.
- 2. The system of claim 1, wherein:the content of the text characters is related to the content of the main data.
- 3. The system of claim 1, wherein:the presentation of the text characters for a coded text line is controlled depending on the in-line control characters in the same coded text line.
- 4. The system of claim 1, wherein:the display controller presents the text characters of a coded text line exclusively on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line; and the number of character codes in a coded text line is greater than can be simultaneously presented in the respective display line.
- 5. The system of claim 1, wherein:a display line has a fixed number of display positions at which text characters can be presented and the coded text lines have a maximum number of character codes and the maximum number of character codes exceeds the fixed number of display positions.
- 6. The system of claim 1, wherein:the receiver includes a memory for storing coded text lines; the in-line control codes include in-line codes to control linear scrolling of the text characters of the coded text line along the display line; and the display controller controls the presentation of the text characters of the coded text line depending on the in-line linear scrolling control codes of the coded text line.
- 7. The system of claim 6, wherein:the display controller controls whether to scroll linearly and the speed of the linear scrolling depending on the in-line linear scrolling control codes.
- 8. The system of claim 1, wherein:the receiver includes a memory for storing coded text lines; the receiver includes a user input for receiving manually entered linear scrolling commands; and the display controller controls the presentation of the text characters depending on the manually entered linear scrolling commands.
- 9. The system of claim 8, wherein:the display controller controls the speed of the linear scrolling depending on the manually entered linear scrolling commands.
- 10. The system of claim 1, wherein:the control codes include marking codes for marking groups of one or more characters codes within a coded text line; and the display controller selects the character codes for which corresponding text characters are displayed depending on the marking codes.
- 11. The system of claim 10, wherein:the marking codes include a start code preceding a marked group of character codes and a pause code following a marked group of character codes, the start code and pause code marking the group of character codes.
- 12. The system of claim 11, wherein:the display controller causes a space-type character to be presented on the display line in response to a pause code and causes no presentation of a space-type character in response to a start code.
- 13. The system of claim 12, wherein:the sub data includes text packets, each text packet includes a coded text line and additional control codes; the additional control codes include an indicating control code; and the receiver includes a packet selector which only sends coded text lines from text packets which include the indicating control code, to the display controller.
- 14. A transmitter, comprising:one or more inputs for receiving main data, coded characters that represents corresponding displayable text characters, and in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters; means for forming coded text lines containing the in-line control codes mixed with the coded characters; and an output for introducing an information signal into a transfer medium, the information signal including the main data and sub data, the sub data including the coded text lines.
- 15. The transmitter of claim 14, wherein:the system further comprises means for generating in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters on lines of a display, the generated in-line control codes are supplied to an input of the one or more inputs, the control codes are adapted to control the display of the text characters when the text characters of the coded text line are presented exclusively on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line and the number of character codes of one of the coded text lines is more than can be displayed on the respective display line.
- 16. A receiver, comprising:an input for receiving an information signal from a transfer medium, the information signal includes main data and sub data, the sub data includes coded text lines, the coded text lines include: character codes representing corresponding displayable text characters; and in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters; and the in-line control codes are mixed with the character codes; a display for displaying the text characters represented by the character codes of a coded text line on one display line, the display has one or more display lines; and display controller means for controlling the presentation of the text characters of the coded text lines on the display lines depending on the in-line control codes that are mixed with the character codes in the coded text line.
- 17. The receiver of claim 16, wherein:the display controller presents the text characters of a coded text line exclusively on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line; and the number of character codes in a coded text line is greater than can be simultaneously presented on the respective display line.
- 18. An information signal, comprising:main data; and sub data including coded text lines combined in the information signal with the main data, the coded text lines containing: coded characters that represent corresponding displayable text characters; and in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters on lines of a display; and the coded characters and in-line control codes being mixed in the coded text lines.
- 19. The signal of claim 18, wherein the in-line control codes are adapted to control the display of the text characters when:the text characters of a coded text line are exclusively presented on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line; and the number of character codes in a coded text line is greater than can be simultaneously presented on the respective display line.
- 20. A record carrier, comprising:means for storing information as static changes in the physical properties of a medium so that the information can be retrieved; and information stored in the medium for controlling the operation of an information receiver, the information includes: main data; and sub data including coded text lines, the coded text lines contain: character codes that represent corresponding displayable text characters; and in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters on one or more lines of a display, and the character codes and in-line control codes being mixed in the coded text lines.
- 21. The record carrier of claim 20, wherein the in-line control codes are adapted to control the display of the text characters when:the text characters of a coded text line are exclusively presented on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line; and the number of character codes in a coded text line is greater than can be simultaneously presented on the respective display line.
- 22. An information transfer system, comprising:a transmitter for transmitting an information signal through a transfer medium, the information signal containing main data and sub data, the sub data including character codes that represent corresponding displayable text characters and including control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters, and the character codes are contained in coded text lines; a receiver for receiving the signal from the transfer medium, the receiver including: a display for displaying the text characters represented by the character codes, the display having one or more display lines; and a display controller for controlling the presentation of the text characters on the display depending on the control codes, the text characters of a coded text line are displayed exclusively on one display line, and the number of character codes in the coded text line is more than can be simultaneously displayed on the respective display line.
- 23. The system of claim 22 wherein:the display lines have a fixed number of display positions where text characters can be displayed.
- 24. The system of claim 22, wherein:the transmitter includes a multiplexer to form coded text lines containing character codes mixed with the in-line control codes.
- 25. A transmitter, comprisingone or more inputs for receiving main data and character codes that represent corresponding displayable text characters, the character codes are contained in coded text lines; means for generating control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters on lines of a display unit when the text characters of a coded text line are displayed exclusively on one display line and the number of character codes in the coded text line is more than can be simultaneously displayed on the respective display line; and an output for introducing an information signal into a transfer medium, the information signal including the main data and sub data, the sub data including the character codes contained in coded text lines and including the control codes.
- 26. The transmitter of claim 25, wherein:the transmitter further comprises means for forming the coded text lines containing the control codes mixed with the character codes.
- 27. A receiver, comprising:an input for receiving an information signal from the transfer medium, the information signal includes main data and sub data, the sub data includes character codes representing corresponding displayable text characters and includes control codes, and the character codes are contained in coded text lines; a display for displaying the text characters represented by the character codes, the display having one or more display lines; means for controlling the presentation of the text characters on the display depending on the control codes, the text characters of a coded text line are displayed exclusively on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line, and the number of character codes in the coded text line is more than can be simultaneously displayed on the respective display line.
- 28. The receiver of claim 27, wherein:the transmitter further comprises means for forming the coded text lines containing the control codes mixed with the character codes.
- 29. An information signal, comprising:main data; and sub data including coded text lines combined in the information signal with the main data, the coded text lines containing: coded characters that represents corresponding displayable text characters; and in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters on lines of a display when the text characters of a coded text line are exclusively presented on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line and the number of character codes in a coded text line is greater than can be simultaneously presented on the respective display line.
- 30. The signal of claim 29, wherein:the coded characters and in-line control codes are mixed in the coded text lines.
- 31. A record carrier, comprising:means for storing information as static changes in the physical properties of a medium so that the information can be retrieved; and information stored in the medium for controlling the operation of an information receiver, the information includes: main data; and sub data including: coded text lines, the coded text lines contain character codes that represent corresponding displayable text characters; and in-line control codes for controlling the presentation of the text characters on lines of a display when the text characters of a coded text line are exclusively presented on one display line at a time for the respective coded text line and the number of character codes in a coded text line is greater than can be simultaneously presented on the respective display line.
- 32. The record carrier of claim 31, wherein: the character codes and in-line control codes are mixed in the coded text lines.
