Claims
- 1. A thermally conductive, elastomeric gasket, comprising:
an elastomeric polymer base matrix; and a thermally conductive filler loaded in said polymer base matrix.
- 2. The elastomeric gasket of claim 1, wherein said thermally conductive filler is not electrically conductive.
- 3. The elastomeric gasket of claim 2, wherein said thermally conductive filler is carbon material.
- 4. The elastomeric gasket of claim 1, wherein said thermally conductive filler is an electrically conductive metallic material.
- 5. The elastomeric gasket of claim 4, wherein said thermally conductive metallic filler material reflects electromagnetic and radio wave interference.
- 6. A thermally conductive elastomeric gasket for use in an electronic device, said electronic device having a first case section having a first mating surface, a second case section having a second mating surface and an electronic component enclosed within said first and second case sections, comprising:
a net-shape molded elastomeric polymer base matrix loaded with a thermally conductive filler wherein said gasket resides between and is in contact with said first mating surface and said second mating surface.
- 7. The elastomeric gasket of claim 6, wherein said thermally conductive filler is not electrically conductive.
- 8. The elastomeric gasket of claim 7, wherein said thermally conductive filler is carbon material.
- 9. The elastomeric gasket of claim 6, wherein said thermally conductive filler is an electrically conductive metallic material.
- 10. The elastomeric gasket of claim 9, wherein said thermally conductive metallic filler material reflects electromagnetic and radio wave interference thereby preventing the transfer of said interference to said electronic component.
- 11. The elastomeric gasket of claim 6, wherein said gasket is in thermal communication with said first case section, said second case section and said electronic component.
- 12. A method of molding a thermally conductive elastomeric gasket, comprising the steps of:
providing a base elastomeric polymer matrix material; providing a filler material; mixing said filler material with said base matrix into a mixture; and molding said mixture into a net-shape molded article.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein said step of providing a filler material is providing a filler material that is thermally conductive and electromagnetic interference and radio frequency reflective.
- 14. The method of claim 12, wherein said step of providing a filler material is providing carbon flakes.
- 15. The method of claim 13, wherein said step of providing a thermally conductive electromagnetic interference and radio frequency reflective filler material is providing a metallic flake material.
