Claims
- 1. A coated textile comprising:a fabric; and a coating applied to said fabric to make a coated fabric, wherein said coating comprises (1) a polymer or copolymer comprising epihalohydrin or its precursors and a polyalkylene polyamine and (2) a softener comprising one or more alkylammonium salts, wherein a weight ratio of polymer or copolymer to softener is from approximately 1:1 to approximately 2.5:1.
- 2. The coated fabric of claim 1, wherein said coating additionally comprises an additional cationic binder different from both said polymer or copolymer of epihalohydrin or its precursors and a polyalkylene polyamine and from said alkylammonium salts.
- 3. The coated fabric of claim 2, wherein said cationic binder comprises acrylic or acrylic precursor copolymerized with a cationic moiety.
- 4. The coated fabric of claim 3, wherein a weight ratio of alkylammonium salts to cationic binder is from approximately 10:1 to approximately 1:10.
- 5. The fabric of claim 1, wherein droplets of ink have been deposited with an ink jet printer to form a printed fabric, and wherein the optical density of the black ink on said printed fabric after washing is 80 percent or more of the optical density as before washing.
- 6. A printed textile produced by a method comprising the steps of:coating a textile substrate with a solution comprising (1) a polymer or copolymer comprising epihalohydrin and a polyalkylene polyamine and (2) a softener comprising one or more alkylammonium salts, wherein a weight ratio of polymer or copolymer to softener is from approximately 1:1 to approximately 2.5:1; drying said textile substrate; and selectively depositing individual drops of ink onto said textile substrate so as to from a printed pattern on said textile substrate.
- 7. The printed textile of claim 6, wherein said ink comprises an anionic dye.
- 8. A printed textile having a waterfast print pattern and supple feel made by a method comprising the steps of:immersing said textile substrate in a coating solution comprising (1) a polymer or copolymer comprising epihalohydrin or its precursors and a polyalkylene polyamine and (2) a softener comprising an alkylammonium salt, wherein a weight ratio of polymer or copolymer to softener is from approximately 1:1 to approximately 10:1; drying said textile substrate so as to form an ink acceptor layer on a surface of said textile substrate; and selecting ink droplets onto said surface of said textile substrate to form said waterfast print pattern, wherein the optical density of the black ink on said waterfast print pattern after washing is 80 percent or more of the optical density as before washing.
- 9. The printed textile of claim 8, wherein the coating solution additionally comprises a softener comprising an alkylammonium salt.
- 10. The coated textile of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of ink droplets applied to said coated fabric.
