Claims
- 1. An ink-on-demand type ink jet printer comprising a printer head, said printer head including at least one nozzle, pressure chamber, and means for pressurizing an ink in said pressure chamber so as to effect ejection of an ink droplet from a nozzle, a pump means for pressurizing an ink in said printer head, a pump driving means for driving said pump means continuously for a predetermined period of time during which a small amount of ink is partially ejected from said nozzle, and a nozzle cover means for selectively covering said nozzle, said nozzle cover means moving to cover said nozzle during said predetermined period of time when said pump driving means is operating while ink is being ejected from said nozzle, further comprising first, second and third coaxial cams, an ink container having a pump hole and a vent hole, a pump lever drivable by said first cam for pushing said pump means towards said pump hole, a vent hole cover, a vent hole lever drivable by said second cam for pushing said vent hole cover toward said vent hole, and a cover lever having said nozzle cover means drivable by said third cam for closing said nozzle.
- 2. A ink-on-demand type ink jet printer as claimed in claim 1, wherein a cleaner is arranged coaxially of said first, second and third cams and is arranged to clean said nozzle and said nozzle cover means simultaneously.
- 3. An ink-on-demand type ink jet printer comprising a print head having ink therein, said print head including at least one nozzle having a nozzle surface on said print head adjacent said nozzle, a pressure chamber having ink therein coupled to said nozzle, pressurizing means for selectively pressurizing said ink in said pressure chamber to effect selective ejection of ink from said nozzle to effect printing during a printing operation, ink in said nozzle forming a meniscus adjacent said nozzle surface when said ink in said pressure chamber is not pressurized, pump means for selectively pressurizing said ink in said print head during non-printing to remove said meniscus by partially ejecting ink out of said nozzle, nozzle cover means for selectively pressing against said nozzle surface to close off said nozzle during non-printing, and nozzle cover moving means for moving said nozzle cover means to press against said nozzle surface to close off said nozzle while ink is being partially ejected from said nozzle by said pump means to prevent the formation of air bubbles in said nozzle.
- 4. An ink-on-demand type ink jet printer as claimed in claim 3, further comprising an ink container, said ink container being formed with a pump hole and said pump means pressurizes the ink in an ink container through said pump hole.
- 5. An ink-on-demand type ink jet printer as claimed in claim 4, wherein said ink container has a vent hole, and further comprising a vent hole cover, said vent hole being closed by said vent hole cover when said pump means pressurizes the ink in said ink container.
- 6. An ink-on-demand type ink jet printer as claimed in claim 5, wherein a surface of said vent hole is coated with a defoaming agent.
- 7. An ink-on-demand type ink jet printer as claimed in claim 5, wherein a surface of said vent hole is coated with an ink repellant material.
