Claims
- 1. An ink jet printing method, comprising the steps of:A) providing an ink jet printer that is responsive to digital data signals; B) loading said printer with an ink jet recording element comprising a support having thereon an image-receiving layer comprising at least about 70% by weight of porous polymeric particles in a polymeric binder, said porous polymeric particles having a core/shell structure comprising a porous polymeric core covered with a shell of a water-soluble polymer; C) loading said printer with an ink jet ink composition; and D) printing on said ink jet recording element using said ink jet ink in response to said digital data signals.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said porous polymeric core is made from a styrenic or an acrylic monomer.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein said acrylic monomer comprises methyl methacrylate.
- 4. The process of claim 2 wherein said porous polymeric core is cross-linked to a degree of crosslinking of at least about 27 mole %.
- 5. The process of claim 1 wherein said shell comprises up to about 5% by weight of said particles.
- 6. The process of claim 1 wherein said water-soluble polymer comprises a poly(vinyl alcohol), a gelatin, a cellulose ether, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) or poly(ethylene oxide).
- 7. The process of claim 1 wherein said polymeric binder comprises a poly(vinyl alcohol), a gelatin, a cellulose ether, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) or poly(ethylene oxide).
- 8. The process of claim 1 wherein said support is opaque.
- 9. The process of claim 1 wherein said porous polymeric particles have a particle size median diameter of less than about 10 μm.
- 10. The process of claim 1 wherein said porous polymeric particles have a particle size median diameter of less than about 1 μm.
- 11. The process of claim 1 wherein both said water-soluble polymer and said polymeric binder comprise the same material.
