Claims
- 1. An ink tank cartridge for a printer, the ink tank cartridge comprising:
- a housing formed with a chamber therein to contain a supply of ink;
- an ink supply port positioned in said housing, said cartridge being constructed to be removably mounted on said printer so that an ink supply needle of said printer may be received in said ink supply port;
- a first electrode positioned in said ink supply port; and
- a second electrode positioned in said chamber of said housing, said second electrode being spaced from said first electrode;
- whereby the ink in said housing between said first electrode and said second electrode provides an electrical connection between said first electrode and said second electrode that would determine if said ink is present or absent.
- 2. The ink tank cartridge of claim 1, further comprising at least one porous member for being impregnated with ink, said at least one porous member being accommodated in said chamber of said housing, said second electrode engaging said porous member.
- 3. The ink tank cartridge of claim 1, wherein said second electrode is positioned near the bottom region of said porous member.
- 4. The ink tank cartridge of claim 1, further comprising at least one porous member for being impregnated with ink, said at least one porous member being accommodated in said chamber of said housing.
- 5. The ink tank cartridge of claim 1, wherein said housing further comprises an air vent through which said chamber within said housing is allowed to communicate with the outside atmosphere.
- 6. An ink tank cartridge for a printer being removably mountable onto an ink supply needle of said printer, the ink tank cartridge comprising:
- a housing formed with a chamber therein to contain a supply of ink;
- an ink supply port positioned in said housing;
- a packing member provided within said ink supply port, said packing member being formed with a hole therethrough dimensioned to receive said ink supply needle;
- a first electrode positioned in said ink supply port; and
- a second electrode positioned in said chamber of said housing, said second electrode being spaced from said first electrode;
- whereby the ink in said housing between said first electrode and said second electrode provides an electrical connection between said first electrode and said second electrode that would determine if said ink is present or absent.
- 7. The ink tank cartridge of claim 6, wherein said ink supply port extends from a wall of said housing, said ink supply port having a first opening directed toward said chamber and a second opening directed away from said wall of said housing of said chamber.
- 8. The ink tank cartridge of claim 7, further comprising a sealing member separate from said packing member positioned to seal said second opening of said ink supply port before said ink tank cartridge is penetrated by said ink supply needle.
- 9. The ink tank cartridge of claim 8, further comprising a stopping member provided between said packing member and said sealing member, said stopping member being positioned and dimensioned to prevent pieces of said sealing member produced when said ink supply needle penetrates said sealing member from entering said ink supply port past said sealing member.
- 10. The ink tank cartridge of claim 6, further comprising at least one porous member for being impregnated with ink, said at least one porous member being accommodated in said chamber of said housing, said at least one porous member abutting against said first opening of said ink supply port for transfer of ink thereto, said second electrode engaging said porous member.
- 11. The ink tank cartridge of claim 6, wherein said second electrode is positioned near the bottom region of said porous member.
- 12. The ink tank cartridge of claim 6, further comprising at least one porous member for being impregnated with ink, said at least one porous member being accommodated in said chamber of said housing.
- 13. The ink tank cartridge of claim 6, wherein said housing includes an air vent through which the ink tank cartridge is allowed to communicate with the outside atmosphere.
