Claims
- 1. An ink jet recording apparatus comprising:
- a recording head comprising a plurality of heat generating elements for generating heat;
- driving means for selectively supplying to each of said heat generating elements a driving pulse having either a first pulse and a second pulse or only the second pulse to drive said heat generating element, wherein voltages of the first and second pulses are equal; and
- changing means for changing the widths of the first and second pulses to control an amount of the ink ejected from said recording head, wherein the first pulse has a width shorter than that of the second pulse when said driving pulse comprises both the first and second pulses.
- 2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said driving means supplies the first and second pulses having widths in accordance with properties of the heat generating elements.
- 3. An ink jet recording method comprising the steps of:
- supplying at least a main pulse to each of plural heat generating elements, provided in a recording head, for generating heat, the main pulse selectively being either preceded by a pre-pulse or not preceded thereby, and the pre-pulse driving the heat generating element to control a temperature of ink, and the main pulse creating a bubble in the ink to eject the ink, wherein voltages of the pre-pulse and the main pulse are equal; and
- changing the widths of the pre-pulse and main pulse in said supplying step to control an amount of the ink ejected from the recording head, wherein the pre-pulse has a width shorter than that of the main pulse when the main pulse is preceded by the pre-pulse.
- 4. A method according to claim 3, wherein the pre-pulse and the main pulse are supplied in widths in accordance with properties of the heat generating elements.
- 5. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said changing means changes only the width of the second pulse, when said driving means drives each heat generating element only by the second pulse.
- 6. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the first pulse drives each heat generating element to control a temperature of the ink, and the second pulse drives each heat generating element to eject the ink.
- 7. An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said driving means supplies the second pulse to create a bubble in the ink.
- 8. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said changing means changes the width of the second pulse without changing a timing of supply of the second pulse.
- 9. A method according to claim 4, wherein said changing step changes only the width of the main pulse, when each heat generating element is supplied only with the main pulse.
- 10. A method according to claim 4, wherein said changing step changes the width of the main pulse without changing a timing of supply of the main pulse.
