Claims
- 1. An ink jet recording apparatus for recording by discharging an ink from a discharge opening by utilizing energy generated by an energy generating member in a detachable recording head, comprising:
- a mounting section for receiving said detachable recording head;
- recovery means for effecting a discharge recovery operation to improve an ink discharge condition of said recording head, said recovery means comprising suction recovery means for forcibly sucking ink from said discharge opening and idle discharge means for effecting an idle discharge from said discharge opening by utilizing energy generated by said energy generating member;
- determining means for determining whether said recording head has been newly-mounted on the mounting section, the determining means having as a consequence a result; and
- control means for controlling the operation of said recovery means for said recording head in accordance with the result of the determining means, said control means being arranged to cause a recovery operation on said recording head mounted on said mounting section to be carried out by operating said suction means and said idle discharge means simultaneously when said determining means determines that said recording head has been newly-mounted on the mounting section and by operating said suction means without said idle discharge means when said determining means determines that said recording head has not been newly mounted on the mounting section.
- 2. An ink jet recording apparatus according to claim 1, characterized during a recovery operation in that a force of compulsorily discharging the ink during a first discharge recovery means at a second time and thereafter is smaller than that during a first time, when the recovery operation is performed plural times.
- 3. An ink jet recording apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising said recording head comprising a plurality of electric-heat converters, whereby said converters generate a heat energy to discharge the ink.
- 4. An ink jet recording apparatus according to claim 3, wherein said recording head further comprises a plurality of discharge orifices on said recording head, whereby the ink is discharged through said discharge orifices by film boiling as a consequence of the heat energy generated by said converters.
- 5. A discharge recovery method for an ink jet recording apparatus having first discharge recovery means for compulsorily discharging an ink through a plurality of discharge orifices of a recording head at least a first time and a second time, and second discharge recovery means for wiping away a plurality of adherents adhering to the periphery of said discharge orifices by causing relative motion between a discharge orifice formation face of said recording head and an elastic member,
- characterized by the step of wiping away said adherents with said second discharge recovery means plural times, after compulsorily discharging the ink with said first discharge recovery means, and wherein a force of compulsorily discharging the ink with said first discharge recovery means at the second time and thereafter is smaller than that during the first time.
- 6. A discharge recovery method for an ink jet recording apparatus according to claim 5, said ink jet recording apparatus having a recording head having a plurality of electric-heat converters, whereby said converters generate a heat energy to discharge the ink.
- 7. A discharge recovery method for an ink jet recording apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said recording head has a plurality of discharge orifices on said recording head, whereby the ink is discharged through said discharge orifices by film boiling as a consequence of the heat energy generated by said converters.
- 8. An ink jet recording method for recording by discharging an ink from a discharge opening by utilizing energy generated by an energy generating member in a detachable recording head, comprising the steps of:
- providing a mounting section for receiving said detachable recording head;
- effecting a discharge recovery operation to improve an ink discharge condition of said recording head, said discharge recovery operation comprising a sucking step for forcibly sucking ink from said discharge opening and an idle discharge step for effecting an idle discharge from said discharge opening by utilizing energy generated by said energy generating member;
- determining whether the recording head has been newly-mounted on the mounting section, the determining step having as a consequence a result; and
- controlling the discharge recovery operation for the recording head in accordance with the result of the determining step, said controlling step causing a recovery operation on the recording head mounted on the mounting section to be carried out by effecting said sucking step and said idle discharge step simultaneously when said determining step determines that the recording head has been newly-mounted on the mounting section and by effecting said sucking step without said idle discharge step when said determining step determines that the recording head has not been newly mounted on the mounting section.
- 9. An ink jet recording method for recording by discharging an ink from a discharge opening by utilizing energy generated by an energy generating member in a detachable recording head, comprising the steps of:
- determining whether the recording head has been newly-mounted on a mounting section of a recording apparatus for receiving the recording head, the determining step having as a consequence a result; and
- controlling a discharge recovery operation to improve an ink discharge condition of the recording head in accordance with the result of the determining step, said controlling step causing a recovery operation on the recording head mounted on the mounting section to be carried out by effecting a sucking step for forcibly sucking ink from the discharge opening and, simultaneously, an idle discharge step for effecting an idle discharge from the discharge opening by utilizing energy generated by said energy generating member when said determining step determines that the recording head has been newly-mounted on the mounting section and by effecting said sucking step without said idle discharge step when said determining step determines that the recording head has not been newly mounted on the mounting section.
