Claims
- 1. An ink jet recording head comprising a discharge port plate having a plurality of discharge ports formed therein for discharging recording liquid, a liquid chamber for retaining the recording liquid, a plurality of discharge energy generating elements for discharging the recording liquid, a substrate having one surface on which said plurality of discharge energy generating elements are disposed, and a plurality of liquid flow paths extending in one direction for communicating said liquid chamber with said discharge ports, said liquid flow paths including said discharge energy generating elements therein and having a rectangular sectional configuration, wherein each of said discharge ports is circular in sectional shape at an end portion thereof on the recording liquid discharge side and the sectional area of the discharge port end portion connected with said liquid flow path is larger than that of the discharge port on said recording liquid discharge side, and each of said discharge ports having a sectional shape that is rectangular in one portion and that tapers in such manner as to change the sectional shape thereof from quadrilateral to circular at said recording liquid discharge side.
- 2. An ink jet recording head according to claim 1, wherein each of said discharge ports is provided with a non-tapered portion connected with said end portion on said recording liquid discharge side, and said non-tapered portion is configured symmetrically with respect to the axis of ink discharge direction.
- 3. An ink jet recording head according to claim 2, wherein each of said discharge ports is provided with a portion having variable taper angles on the way from said end portion connected with said liquid path to said non-tapered portion.
- 4. An ink jet recording head according to claim 3, wherein a portion of each of said discharge ports nearest to said substrate is not tapered.
- 5. An ink jet recording head according to claim 1, wherein each of said liquid flow paths is formed by joining a ceiling plate having grooves partly to said substrate, said grooves becoming parts of said liquid flow paths, and at the same time, said discharge port plate is formed integrally with said ceiling plate.
- 6. An ink jet recording head according to claim 1, wherein the sectional configuration of said liquid flow path is a trapezoid having its longer parallel side toward said substrate.
- 7. An ink jet recording head according to claim 1, wherein each of said discharge energy generating elements is an electrothermal converting element, and thermal energy generated by one of said electrothermal converting element is given to recording liquid in a corresponding one of said liquid flow paths, and then, the recording liquid is discharged by generating a bubble in the recording liquid.
- 8. An ink jet recording head according to claim 1, wherein a plurality of said discharge energy generating elements are arranged in each of said liquid flow paths and, for each one of said liquid flow paths, distances between said discharge port and said respective discharge energy generating elements in said one liquid flow path differ from each other.
- 9. An ink jet recording head according to claim 8, wherein, for each one said liquid flow paths, said discharge energy generating elements in said one liquid flow path can each be driven independently, and an amount of recording droplet discharges can be changed by driving a desired one or ones of said discharge energy generating elements in said one liquid flow path.
