Claims
- 1. A printer comprising:
- a printing apparatus;
- an ink supply system mounted in said printing apparatus; and
- an ink supply tank mounted in said printing apparatus, said ink supply tank operatively engaging with said printing apparatus through said ink supply system, said ink supply tank dimensioned to accommodate ink therein to be delivered to said ink supply system, said ink supply tank comprising:
- a tank housing having an interior space;
- an ink supply delivery port formed in said tank housing, said port including an opening in a wall of said tank housing for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said tank housing; and
- an ink absorbing member having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a height before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 2. A dot matrix printer comprising:
- a printing apparatus;
- an ink supply system mounted in said printing apparatus; and
- an ink supply tank mounted in said printing apparatus, said ink supply tank operatively engaging with said printing apparatus through said ink supply system, said ink supply tank dimensioned to accommodate ink therein to be delivered to said ink supply system, said ink supply tank comprising:
- a tank housing having an interior space;
- an ink supply delivery port formed in said tank housing, said port including an opening in a wall of said tank housing for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said tank housing; and
- an ink absorbing member having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a volume before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially greater than the volume of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 3. The printer of claim 2, wherein black ink is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 4. The printer of claim 2, wherein ink of a color other than black is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 5. The printer of claim 2, wherein said tank housing is formed with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 6. The printer of claim 2, wherein said tank housing is formed with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 7. The printer of claim 2, wherein said ink absorbing member has a height which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 8. The printer of claim 7, wherein black ink is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 9. The printer of claim 7, wherein ink of a color other than black is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 10. The printer of claim 7, wherein said tank housing is formed with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 11. The printer of claim 7, wherein said tank housing is formed with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 12. An ink supply tank for a printer, comprising:
- a tank housing having an interior space;
- an ink supply delivery port formed in said tank housing, said port including an opening in a wall of said tank housing for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said tank housing; and
- an ink absorbing member having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a height before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 13. An ink supply tank for a printer, comprising:
- a tank housing having an interior space;
- an ink supply delivery port formed in said tank housing, said port including an opening in a wall of said tank housing for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said tank housing; and
- an ink absorbing member having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a volume before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially greater than the volume of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 14. The ink supply tank of claim 13, wherein black ink is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 15. The ink supply tank of claim 13, wherein ink of a color other than black is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 16. The ink supply tank of claim 13, wherein said tank housing is formed with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 17. The ink supply tank of claim 13, wherein said tank housing is formed with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 18. The ink supply tank of claim 13, wherein said ink absorbing member has a height which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 19. The ink supply tank of claim 18, wherein black ink is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 20. The ink supply tank of claim 18, wherein ink of a color other than black is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 21. The ink supply tank of claim 18, wherein said tank housing is formed with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 22. The ink supply tank of claim 18, wherein said tank housing is formed with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 23. An ink supply system for a printer, comprising:
- an ink supply tank; and
- an ink delivery system positioned to receive ink from said ink supply tank and to deliver ink to a dot matrix printer;
- said ink supply tank comprising:
- a tank housing having an interior space;
- an ink supply delivery port formed in said tank housing, said port including an opening in a wall of said tank housing for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said tank housing; and
- an ink absorbing member having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a height before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 24. An ink supply system for a printer, comprising:
- an ink supply tank; and
- an ink delivery system positioned to receive ink from said ink supply tank and to deliver ink to a dot matrix printer;
- said ink supply tank comprising:
- a tank housing having an interior space;
- an ink supply delivery port formed in said tank housing, said port including an opening in a wall of said tank housing for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said tank housing; and
- an ink absorbing member having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a volume before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially greater than the volume of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 25. The ink supply system of claim 24, wherein black ink contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 26. The ink supply system of claim 24, wherein ink of a color other than black is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 27. The ink supply system of claim 24, wherein said tank housing is formed with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 28. The ink supply system of claim 24, wherein said tank housing is formed with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 29. The ink supply system of claim 24, wherein said ink absorbing member has a height which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing.
- 30. The ink supply system of claim 29, wherein black ink is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 31. The ink supply system of claim 29, wherein ink of a color other than black is contained in said interior space of said tank housing.
- 32. The ink supply system of claim 29, wherein said tank housing is formed with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 33. The ink supply system of claim 29, wherein said tank housing is formed with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 34. A method for supplying ink to a printer, comprising the steps of:
- providing an ink supply tank having an interior space;
- forming an ink supply delivery port in said ink supply tank having an opening for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said ink supply tank; and
- providing an ink absorbing member formed of a porous material and having a region facing said ink supply delivery port, said ink absorbing member being dimensioned to have a height before insertion in said ink tank housing which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said tank housing;
- mounting said ink absorbing member into said ink supply tank; and
- withdrawing ink from said interior space of said ink supply tank through said opening in said ink supply delivery port of said ink supply tank.
- 35. A method for supplying ink to a printer, comprising the steps of:
- providing an ink supply tank having an interior space;
- forming an ink supply delivery port in said ink supply tank having an opening for the passage of ink from said interior space to the exterior of said ink supply tank; and
- providing an ink absorbing member formed of a porous material, dimensioned to have a volume before insertion in said ink supply tank which is substantially greater than the volume of said interior space of said ink supply tank and having a region facing said ink supply delivery port;
- mounting said ink absorbing member into said ink supply tank; and
- withdrawing ink from said interior space of said ink supply tank through said opening in said ink supply delivery port of said ink supply tank.
- 36. The method of claim 35, further comprising the step of providing black ink in said interior space of said ink supply tank.
- 37. The method of claim 35, further comprising the step of providing ink of a color other than black in said interior space of said ink supply tank.
- 38. The method of claim 35, further comprising the step of forming said ink supply tank with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 39. The method of claim 35, further comprising the step of forming said ink supply tank with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
- 40. The method of claim 35, further comprising the step of forming said ink absorbing member with a height which is substantially higher than the height, as viewed in the direction faced by the interior wall of said tank housing having said opening, of said interior space of said ink supply tank.
- 41. The method of claim 40, further comprising the step of providing black ink in said interior space of said ink supply tank.
- 42. The method of claim 40, further comprising the step of providing ink of a color other than black in said interior space of said ink supply tank.
- 43. The method of claim 40, further comprising the step of forming said ink supply tank with a plurality of ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said ink supply sections containing ink of a different color.
- 44. The method of claim 40, further comprising the step of forming said ink supply tank with three separate ink supply sections, each of said ink supply sections having a respective interior space, ink supply delivery port, and ink absorbing member, each of said respective interior spaces of said three separate ink supply sections carrying ink of one of yellow, cyan or magenta, respectively.
