Claims
- 1. Apparatus for inking the print characters of a value printing device comprises:
- (a) a cartridge having a housing and an inking means mounted within the housing;
- (b) carriage means mounted within the device for moving the cartridge along a reciprocal path of travel during a cycle of operation and the carriage means during said cycle being moved from a home position and being returned to the home position;
- (c) support means mounted on said carriage means, said support means being made of a resilient material in a predetermined configuration having an inner zone adapted to receive the cartridge and a member adjacent to the inner zone which can be moved by force to distort the predetermined configuration and which will recover its original position when the force is released, the movement of the adjacent member enabling the cartridge to be placed in or removed from the carriage means and the position of the adjacent member while in its predetermined configuration restraining the housing and inking means within said support means after the loading of the housing and inking means therein, the support means having a reciprocal path of travel along the reciprocal path of travel of the carriage means; and
- (d) security rails positioned along the reciprocal path of travel of the support means, the security rails being shaped and positioned to preclude movement of the adjacent member of said support means to distort the predetermined configuration when the carriage is out of its home position and allowing for movement of the adjacent member when the carriage is at its home position for enabling the cartridge to be placed in or removed from the carriage means.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising handle members fixed to the exterior ends of said housing at hinges, said handle members being provided with inwardly turned resilient upper and lower edges moveable into and out of interference relationship with the upper and lower edges on the front of said housing.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said handle means are provided with chambered ends remote from the hinges for facilitating the gripping and movement thereof by an operator.
- 4. Apparatus for inking the print characters of a value printing device comprising:
- (a) a cartridge having a housing and an inking means mounted within the housing;
- (b) carriage means mounted within the device for moving the cartridge along a reciprocal path of travel during its cycle of operation and the carriage means during a cycle being moved from a home position and being returned to the home position;
- (c) support means mounted on said carriage means for resiliently receiving the cartridge and for restraining the movement of the housing and the inking means with respect to the movement of said carriage means, the support means being made of a resilient material in a predetermined configuration having an inner zone adapted to receive the cartridge and a member adjacent the inner zone which can be moved by force to distort the predetermined configuration and which will recover its original position when the force is released, the movement of the adjacent member enabling the cartridge to be placed in or removed from the carriage means, the position of the adjacent member while in its predetermined configuration restraining the housing and the inking means within the support after being loaded therein, and the support means having a reciprocal path of travel during the cycle of the carriage means; and
- (d) security rails located above the support means, the security rails being shaped and positioned for precluding inadvertent upward movement of the support means by preventing upward movement of the adjacent member when the carriage is out of the home position and thus preventing the distortion of the inner zone and said security rails allowing for upward movement of the support means when the carriage is at its home position by allowing for the movement of the adjacent member and thus allowing for the distortion of the inner zone.
