Claims
- 1. A method for combatting insects by inhibiting the development of the larvae, or pupae, thereof which comprises treating, by contact or ingestion, an immature form of said insect with a development inhibiting amount of a compound of the formula ##STR76## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, vinyl or ethynyl,
- R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, halogen, methyl or ethyl, or
- R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together represent the cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl ring,
- R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, halogen, methyl, ethyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy,
- R.sub.4 represents hydrogen, halogen or methyl,
- R.sub.5 represents hydrogen or halogen, or
- R.sub.3 and R.sub.5 together represent a carbon-carbon bond,
- R.sub.6 represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl,
- R.sub.7 represents cyclohexyl or the group ##STR77## R.sub.8 represents hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkoxy,
- Y represents oxygen, or the group ##STR78## whereby the ##STR79## is bound to the phenyl ring, Z represents hydrogn or methyl, and
- m and n each represent the number 0 to 1.
- 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein in said compound
- R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, chlorine, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-, i-, sec.-butyl, vinyl or ethynyl,
- R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, chlorine or methyl, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together represent the cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl ring,
- R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, emthyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy,
- R.sub.4 represents hydrogen, chlorine or methyl,
- R.sub.5 represents hydrogen, or
- R.sub.3 and R.sub.5 together represent a carbon-carbon bond,
- R.sub.6 represents hydrogen or methyl, or
- R.sub.7 represents cyclohexyl, or the group ##STR80## R.sub.8 represents hydrogen, chlorine, methyl, ethyl or ethoxy, Y represents oxygen, or the group ##STR81## whereby the ##STR82## is bound to the phenyl ring, Z represents hydrogen or methyl, and m and n each represent the number 0 or 1.
- 3. The method according to claim 2, wherein in said compound
- R.sub.1 represents hydrogen, chlorine, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, isopropyl, n-, i-, sec.-butyl, vinyl or ethynyl,
- R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, chlorine or methyl,
- R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy or ethoxy,
- R.sub.4 represents hydrogen, chlorine or methyl,
- R.sub.5 represents hydrogen, or
- R.sub.3 and R.sub.5 together represent a carbon-carbon bond,
- R.sub.6 represents hydrogen or methyl,
- R.sub.7 represents the group ##STR83## R.sub.8 represents hydrogen, chlorine, methyl, ethyl or ethoxy, Y represents oxygen, or the group --CH.sub.2 O--, whereby the --CH.sub.2 -- group is bound to the phenyl ring, and
- m and n represent the number 0 or 1.
- 4. The method of claim 3, wherein said compound is 1-phenoxy-4-(4-pentinyl-1-oxy)benzene.
- 5. The method of claim 3, wherein said compound is 1-cyclohexyl-oxy-4-(3-methyl-2-pentenyl-1-oxy)-benzene.
- 6. The method of claim 3, wherein said compound is 1-phenoxy-4-(3-methyl-3-methoxy-pentyl-1-oxy)-benzene.
- 7. The method of claim 3, wherein said compound is 1-phenoxy-4-(3-chloro-2-propenyl-1-oxy)-benzene.
- 8. The method of claim 3, wherein said compound is 1-phenoxy-4-(3-methyl-2,4-pentadienyl-1-oxy)-benzene.
- 9. The method of claim 3, wherein said compound is 1-phenoxy-4-(4-methyl-3-hexenyl-1-oxy)-benzene.
- 10. The method of claim 1 for combatting insects of the order diptera or Coleoptera.
