Claims
- 1. A multi-layer thermoplastic printable film comprising a thermoplastic substrate having laminated to one surface of said substrate a fluoride polymer and a removable outer layer of a polyester film disposed on the fluoride polymer, said multi-layer thermoplastic printable film leaving a birefringence of less than about 25 nanometers, a surface gloss of at least 90%, a surface roughness of about 1.0 to about 3.0 micrometers and a % haze of less than 2%.
- 2. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 1 wherein the thermoplastic substrate is an aromatic polycarbonate.
- 3. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 1 wherein the fluoride polymer is vinyl fluoride.
- 4. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 1 wherein the fluoride polymer is vinylidene fluoride.
- 5. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 1 wherein the film is transparent.
- 6. The multi-layer printable film of claim 1, wherein the polyester film is an alkyl terephthalate layer.
- 7. The multi-layer printable film of claim 6 wherein the alkyl terephthalate layer is polyethylene terephthalate.
- 8. The multi-layer printable film of claim 6 wherein the alkyl terephthdalate layer is polyethylene terephthalate, the fluoride polymer is polyvinyl fluoride or polyvinylidene fluoride and the substrate is an aromatic polycarbonate.
- 9. A molded structure comprising the multi-layer printable thermoplastic film of claim 1 and an injection molded polymeric base layer to which the printable film is bonded.
- 10. The molded structure of claim 9 wherein the base layer is an injection molded aromatic polycarbonate resin.
- 11. The molded structure of claim 9 wherein the base layer is an injection molded ABS.
- 12. The molded structure of claim 9 wherein the base layer is an aromatic polycarbonate/ABS polymer blend.
- 13. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 1 wherein the fluoride polymer has a surface roughness of 30-45 micron on one surface, and a surface roughness of 20-40 micron on a surface opposite the other surface.
- 14. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 13 wherein the film is opaque.
- 15. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 1, wherein one surface of the thermoplastic substrate comprises a print or decoration.
- 16. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 8, wherein the polyethylene terephthalate comprises about 35 wt% to about 55 wt% of the multi-layer thermoplastic printable film, and the polyvinyl fluoride or polyvinylidene fluoride comprises about 35 wt% to about 60 wt% of the multi-layer thermoplastic printable film based on the total weight of the multi-layer thermoplastic printable film.
- 17. The multi-layer thermoplastic printable film of claim 16, further comprising about 5 wt% to about 12 wt% of a heat activated acrylic polymer based on the total weight of the multi-layer thermoplastic printable film.
