Claims
- 1. A quick change assembly for at least one buffing disk supported on a shaft between end supports, said assembly comprising:
- a first plate disposed about the shaft and fixed axially in position along the shaft;
- a second plate disposed about the shaft and spaced axially from the first plate, the at least one buffing disk adapted to be disposed about the shaft between said first plate and said second plate;
- means for moving said second plate axially along the shaft relative to said first plate to provide a constant pressure on the at least one buffing disk; and
- said moving means comprising a plurality of cylinders circumferentially mounted to the shaft and having a corresponding piston rod secured to said second plate to extend and retract said second plate axially relative to said first plate.
- 2. The assembly as set forth in claim 1 including
- means for allowing said first plate to be disposed about the shaft and moved axially therealong to a first position and rotated to a second position to fix axially said first plate in said first position along the shaft to prevent the buffing wheel from disengaging the shaft upon moving said second plate toward said first plate.
- 3. The assembly as set forth in claim 2 including a plurality of keeper members being spaced substantially equally circumferentially about one end of the shaft.
- 4. The assembly as set forth in claim 3 wherein said first plate includes means forming an aperture communicating therethrough to be disposed about the shaft.
- 5. The assembly as set forth in claim 4 wherein said first plate includes means forming a plurality of first pockets extending axially through said first plate circumferentially about the aperture in alignment with said keeper members.
- 6. The assembly as set forth in claim 5 wherein the first plate includes means forming a second pocket between a pair of first pockets and having a flange portion at an axial end of the second pocket.
- 7. The assembly as set forth in claim 6 wherein said moving means comprises a plurality of cylinders circumferentially mounted about the shaft and having a corresponding piston rod secured to said second plate.
- 8. In a device having a plurality of buffing discs supported on a rotatable spindle between first and second end members, expansible means mounted to said rotatable spindle for causing at least one of said end members to press said buffing discs between said end member;
- said expansible means comprising a plurality of circumferentially spaced fluid pressure controlled cylinders and a rotary fluid pressure coupling mounted to one end of said spindle, and said spindle including a passageway means for allowing fluid communication between said coupling and said cylinders; and
- means for fixing axially said first end member on said spindle and means for connecting said cylinders to said second end member to allow said second end member to move in response to the actuation of said cylinder.
- 9. A quick change assembly for a buffing wheel including one or more buffing disks supported on a shaft on a buffing device, said assembly comprising:
- a first plate disposed about the shaft;
- a second plate disposed about the shaft and spaced axially from said first plate, the buffing wheel adapted to be disposed about the shaft between said first plate and said second plate;
- means for moving the second plate axially along the shaft relative to said first plate to allow the buffing wheel to be compressed between said first plate and said second plate;
- a plurality of keeper members spaced substantially equally circumferentially about one end of the shaft and extending longitudinally partially therealong and extending radially outwardly;
- said first plate includes means forming an aperture communicating therethrough to allow said first plate to be disposed about the shaft and moved axially therealong;
- said first plate including means forming a plurality of first pockets extending axially through said first plate circumferentially about said aperture in alignment with said keeper members to allow said first plate to be disposed about the shaft and moved axially therealong past said keeper members to a first position;
- said first plate including means forming a second pocket between a pair of first pockets and having a flange portion at the axial end of the second pocket, whereby said first plate is rotated to a second position such that said second pockets are in alignment with said keeper members to fix axially said first plate in said first position along the shaft; and
- said moving means comprising a plurality of fluid pressure controlled cylinders circumferentially mounted about the shaft and having a corresponding piston rod secured to said second plate to extend and retract said second plate axially relative to said first plate.
