Claims
- 1. A marine power distribution arrangement comprising:a plurality of AC power generators each having a corresponding motive drive power source and each having a plurality of different phase outputs which are isolated from each other; a first propulsion power converter connected to one of the plurality of generators to receive isolated inputs from the plurality of isolated generator outputs and to supply drive power at variable frequency and variable voltage to a ship propulsion motor; and, a second propulsion power converter connected to receive isolated inputs from the isolated outputs of another generator of the plurality of generators and to supply drive power variable frequency and variable voltage to the ship propulsion motor.
- 2. A marine power distribution arrangement according to claim 1 including a plurality of ship service power converters having isolated inputs connected respectively to the isolated outputs of the generators supplying power to the first and second propulsion power converters, respectively.
- 3. A marine power distribution arrangement comprising:two electric plants each supplying propulsion power to a corresponding ship propulsion motor, each of the electric plants including first and second generators each driven by a separate motive power source and each having a plurality of isolated multi-phase outputs; a first propulsion power converter in each electric plant receiving isolated input power from the isolated outputs of the first generator therein and supplying variable frequency, variable voltage power to the corresponding propulsion motor; and, a second propulsion power converter in each electric plant receiving isolated input power from the isolated outputs of the second generator therein and supplying variable voltage, variable frequency to the corresponding propulsion motor.
- 4. A marine power distribution arrangement according to claim 3 wherein each electric plant includes first and second ship service power converters receiving isolated input power from the isolated outputs of the first and second generators therein, respectively, and supplying fixed voltage power to a ship service load.
- 5. A marine power distribution arrangement according to claim 4 wherein each ship service power converter includes an isolating transformer receiving power from the outputs of the corresponding generator.
