Claims
- 1. An interactive system for visualizing business data organized according to the dimensional model, said system comprising:
a. means for retrieving data from at least one dimensional data source; b. means for converting the retrieved data into a graphical form; and c. means for presenting the converted data to a user as a graphical visualization.
- 2. A system according to claim 1, wherein the visualization is a multi-metric visualization.
- 3. A system according to claim 2, wherein the data visualization combines data from more than one data source.
- 4. A system according to claim 3, wherein the visualization consists of hierarchically organized visualization elements.
- 5. A system according to claim 4, wherein the hierarchy of visualization elements consists, in descending order, of sheets, scenes, panels, and charts.
- 6. A system according to claim 5, wherein the visualization elements may be added to the visualization in any order.
- 7. A system according to claim 6, wherein the data are selected and visualization elements are added by the user.
- 8. A system according to claim 5, wherein the system prompts the user to select data and layout features and generates a number of candidate visualizations based on the user selections.
- 9. A system according to claim 8, wherein the visualizing quality of the candidate visualizations is numerically evaluated by a scoring algorithm.
- 10. A system according to claim 9, wherein the scoring algorithm includes heuristic rules.
- 11. A system according to claim 10, wherein the candidate visualizations are presented to the user for selection in a ranked order based on the numerical values scored.
- 12. A system according to claim 11, wherein the values scored are presented to the user in the form of a relative rating.
- 13. A system according to claim 12, wherein the relative rating is the five star rating.
- 14. A system according to claim 5, wherein the visualization comprises at least one visualization element.
- 15. A system according to claim 14, wherein the visualization element is a two- or three-dimensional chart.
- 16. A system according to claim 15, wherein the chart is a map.
- 17. A system according to claim 16, wherein the map has data linked thereto..
- 18. A system according to claim 17, wherein the linked data are color-coded.
- 19. A system according to claim 18, wherein the linked data are coded using a continuous color palette.
- 20. A system according to claim 19, wherein the palette is defined by the user.
- 21. A system according to claim 18, wherein the data are coded using a discrete color palette.
- 22. A system according to claim 21, wherein the color palette is defined by the user.
- 23. A system according to claim 15, wherein the chart is a parallel coordinate chart or a swatch chart.
- 24. A system according to claim 23, wherein the chart is a scorecard.
- 25. A system according to claim 1, wherein the data is filtered prior to visualization..
- 26. A system according to claim 21, wherein the data is filtered by adding to the visualization a filter selected from the group consisting from a check filter, a radio filter, a range filter, and an animation filter.
- 27. A system according to claim 15, wherein data on the chart can be drilled down and up.
- 28. A system according to claim 27, wherein the chart is a map.
