Claims
- 1. An interactive patient assistance device comprising
- a housing,
- a testing device to measure a health parameter of a patient and to provide an output indicative of the parameter,
- a retainer on the housing constructed and arranged for operation in a first mode, preventing use of the testing device by the patient, and a second mode, permitting use of the testing device by the patient,
- a controller on the housing coupled to the retainer to place the retainer in the second mode in response to a prescribed signal and to keep the retainer in the first mode in absence of the prescribed signal,
- an input on the housing to receive and interpret a prescribed patient request,
- a memory unit on the housing to store a prescribed schedule for using the testing device, and
- a command unit on the housing coupled to the input and the memory unit to issue the prescribed signal to the controller in response to either the prescribed schedule stored in the memory unit or receipt of the prescribed patient request by the input.
- 2. A device according to claim 1
- wherein the input includes speech recognition means for receiving and interpreting the prescribed patient request in the form of a verbal command.
- 3. A device according to claim 1
- wherein the retainer includes a drawer movable between a closed position, which comprises the first mode, and an opened position, which comprises the second mode.

No. 07/201,779 filed Jun. 2, 1988 (now U.S. Pat. No. 4,933,873) which is a continuation-in-part of application Ser. No. 07/194,018 filed May 12, 1988 (abandoned).
The present patent application is a continuation-in-part of patent application Ser. No. 194,018 filed May 12, 1988 entitled INDIVIDUAL ASSISTANCE SYSTEM and assigned to the same assignee as the present application.
