Claims
- 1. A method for pushing data from a push content server to a Java-enabled mobile device containing a Java MIDlet, said method comprising the steps of:
communicating a short message from the push content server to the specific Java MIDlet in the Java-enabled mobile device; determining how the short message should be handled; and handling the short message in accordance with the configuration of the mobile device.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said determining how the short message should be handled comprises determining if the mobile device is accepting all short messages.
- 3. The method of claim 2, wherein handling the short message in accordance with the configuration of the mobile device comprises initiating packet delivery through a desired protocol.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein determining how the short message should be handled comprises displaying the short message on the display of the mobile device.
- 5. The method of claim 4, wherein handling the short message in accordance with the configuration of the mobile device comprises displaying the short message pursuant to the capabilities of the mobile device.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein determining how the short message should be handled comprises determining that the short message is to be displayed as a normal short message.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein handling the short message in accordance with the configuration of the mobile device comprises displaying the short message pursuant to the configuration of the mobile device or user preferences.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein determining how the short message should be handled comprises determining that the mobile device is rejecting all SMS messages.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein handling the short message in accordance with the configuration of the mobile device comprises not displaying the short message and clearing all buffers in the mobile device.
- 10. A computer readable medium, said computer readable medium containing instructions to perform the steps of claim 1.
- 11. A system for pushing data from a push content server to a Java-enabled mobile device containing a Java MIDlet, the system comprising:
a content provider; a short message server; a mobile switching device; and a processing unit, the processing unit coupled to a program module containing instructions operative to:
communicate a short message from the push content server to the specific Java MIDlet in the Java-enabled mobile device; determine how the short message should be handled; and handle the short message in accordance with the configuration of the mobile device.
