Claims
- 1. A process for combating viral infections in vertebrate animals which comprises parenterally, intranasally, or topically administering to the animals an antivirally effective amount of a composition containing as the essential active ingredient a compound selected from the group consisting of those having the formula ##STR65## and the non-toxic acid addition salts thereof wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each alkyl of from 12 to 18 carbon atoms;
- R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each hydrogen;
- X' is phenylenedimethylene; and
- m is 0.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein X' is meta-phenylenedimethylene.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the compound is 1-di-(n-octadecyl)aminomethyl-3-aminomethylbenzene, the compound wherein each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is n-octadecyl; and each of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is hydrogen.
- 4. The process of claim 2 wherein the compound is 1-di-(n-hexadecyl)aminomethyl-3-aminomethylbenzene, the compound wherein each of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is n-hexadecyl; and each of R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 is hydrogen.
