Claims
- 1. A process for combating viral infections in a vertebrate animal which comprises parenterally, intranasally or topically administering to the animal an antivirally effective amount of a composition containing as the essential active ingredient a compound of the formula ##STR54## and the non-toxic acid addition salts thereof wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each alkyl of from 12 to 20 carbon atoms;
- R.sub.3 is hydrogen;
- R.sub.4 is selected from the group of hydrogen and hydroxyalkyl of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms; and
- X' is straight chain alkylene of from 2 to 6 carbon atoms.
- 2. A process of claim 1 wherein R.sub.4 is hydrogen.
- 3. A process of claim 2 wherein X' is propylene.
- 4. A process of claim 3 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are both n-octadecyl.
- 5. A process of claim 3 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are both n-hexadecyl.
- 6. A process of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are both n-octadecyl, R.sub.4 is 2-hydroxyethyl and X' is propylene.
