Abstract
The invention relates to a temporary dental formulation useful as a durable, temporary restorative. The formulation changes color during mixing to assist the operator in ensuring adequacy of mixing and enhancing visualization during placement.
Claims
- 1. A dental restorative material comprising a powder containing polyacids and a liquid containing resin activator materials wherein said powder and liquid when mixed undergoes a color change.
- 2. The dental restorative of claim 1, wherein said color change is pH dependent.
- 3. The dental restorative of claim 1, wherein said dental restorative material has a shelf life of over 2 years.
- 4. The dental restorative material of claim 1, wherein said powder comprises D-tartaric acid, polyacrylic acid and benzoyl peroxide and wherein said liquid comprises 2-hydroxethylmethacrylate, tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate and 2,2′-(p-tolylimino) diethanol.
- 5. The dental restorative material of claim 4, wherein said powder also contains glass powder.
- 6. The dental restorative material of claim 4, wherein said polyacrylic acid is 1-10% by weight.
- 7. The dental restorative material of claim 4, wherein said powder comprises, D-Tartaric acid at 5.0% by weight, polyacrylic acid at 3% by weight, and benzoyl peroxide at 2.0% by weight and wherein said liquid comprises 2-hydroxethylmethacrylate at 73.5% by weight, tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate at 24.5% by weight and 2,2′(p-tolylimino) diethanol at 2.0% by weight.
- 8. The dental restorative material of claim 7, wherein said powder also contains 50-90% by weight of glass powder.
- 9. A method of preparing a temporary dental restorative comprising:
a. adding together the powder and liquid components of claim 1;b. mixing said powder and liquid components until the mixture turns yellow.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein said powder comprises D-tartaric acid, polyacrylic acid and benzoyl peroxide and wherein said liquid comprises contains 2-hydroxethylmethacrylate, tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate and 2,2′-(p-tolylimino) diethanol.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein said powder also contains glass powder.
- 12. The dental restorative material of claim 10, wherein said polyacrylic acid is 1-10% by weight.
- 13. The dental restorative material of claim 10, wherein said powder comprises D-Tartaric acid at 5.0% by weight, polyacrylic acid at 3% by weight, and benzoyl peroxide at 2.0% by weight and wherein said liquid comprises 2-hydroxethylmethacrylate at 73.5% by weight, tri(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate at 24.5% by weight and 2,2′(p-tolylimino) diethanol at 2.0% by weight.
- 14. The dental restorative material of claim 11, wherein said powder contains 50-90% by weight of glass powder.
