Claims
- 1. A door frame for installation into a previously installed interior wall system having spaced apart, opposed wall panel members, the door frame comprising:
- a first jamb member terminating at the top of said door frame and having a first spacing member attached to said first jamb member, said first spacing member being configured so as to permit insertion of the first spacing member into the space between the opposed wall panel members of the previously installed interior wall system;
- a lintel member having a second spacing member attached to said lintel member, said second spacing member being configured so as to permit insertion of the second spacing member into the space between the opposed wall panel members of the previously installed interior wall system; and
- a second jamb member terminating at the top of said door frame and having a third spacing member attached to said second jamb member, said third spacing member being configured so as to permit insertion of the third spacing member into the space between the opposed wall panel members of the previously installed interior wall system, and one end of said lintel member being demountably attached to said first jamb member at the top thereof and the other end of said lintel member being demountably attached to said second jamb member at the top thereof, said first and second jamb members and said lintel member being demountable from the wall panel members without causing significant damage to the wall panel members.
- 2. A door frame as defined in claim 1 wherein each of said first and second jamb members and said lintel member have a groove into which the respective spacing members are anchored.
- 3. A door frame as defined in claim 1 wherein said lintel member has a first notch formed at one end thereof and a second notch formed at the other end thereof, said first notch engaging the top of said first jamb member and said second notch engaging the top of said second jamb member.
- 4. A door frame as defined in claim 1 wherein said first spacing member is attached to approximately the center of said first jamb member, said second spacing member is attached to approximately the center of said lintel member, and said third spacing member is attached to approximately the center of said second jamb member.
- 5. A method of installing a door frame into a previously installed interior wall system having spaced apart, opposed wall panels, the method comprising the steps of:
- positioning a first jamb member having a spacing member by inserting the spacing member between said opposed, spaced apart wall panel members of the previously installed interior wall system, aligning said first jamb member such that it is essentially perpendicular with the floor, and anchoring the spacing member of said first jamb member between said wall panel members;
- positioning a lintel member having a spacing member by inserting a first end of said lintel member above said first jamb member with said spacing member of said lintel member being positioned between said opposed, spaced apart wall panel members of the previously installed interior wall system, aligning said lintel member such that it is essentially parallel with the floor, and securing the spacing member of said lintel member between said wall panel members ; and
- positioning a second jamb member having a spacing member by inserting said spacing member of said jamb member between said spaced apart, opposed wall panel members of the previously installed interior wall system, aligning said second jamb member such that said spacing member of said second jamb member is positioned below a second end of said lintel member and such that said second jamb member is essentially perpendicular with the floor, and anchoring the spacing member of said second jamb member between said spaced apart, opposed wall panel members.
- 6. A method of installing a door frame into a previously installed interior wall system having at least two wall panels with a space therebetween, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a first jamb member having a first spacing member attached thereto;
- providing a lintel member having a second spacing member attached thereto;
- providing a second jamb member having a third spacing member attached thereto;
- providing an opening for a door in the wall panels of the previously installed interior wall system;
- positioning the first jamb member along a first side edge of the door opening by inserting the first spacing member into the space between the wall panels at the first side edge;
- securing the first spacing member to at least one of the wall panels;
- positioning the lintel member along a top edge of the door opening by inserting the second spacing member into the space between the wall panels at the top edge;
- securing the second spacing member to at least one of the wall panels; and
- positioning the second jamb member along a second side edge of the door opening by inserting the third spacing member into the space between the wall panels at the second side edge, and securing the third spacing member to at least one of the wall panels.
- 7. A method as defined in claim 6 further comprising the steps of:
- vertically aligning the first spacing member before securing the first spacing member to at least one of the wall panels;
- squaring the lintel member with the first jamb member before securing the second spacing member to at least one of the wall panels; and
- squaring the second jamb member with the lintel member before securing the third spacing member to at least one of the wall panels.
- 8. A method as defined in claim 6 wherein:
- the first jamb member is secured to the wall panels by inserting one or more screws through the wall panels and into the first spacing member;
- the lintel member is secured to the wall panels by inserting one or more screws through the wall panels and into the second spacing member; and
- the second jamb member is secured to the wall panels by inserting one or more screws through the wall panels and into the third spacing member.
- 9. A method as defined in claim 6 further comprising the step of disassembling the door frame by removing the first and second jamb members and the lintel member from the wall panels without causing significant damage to the wall panels.
