Claims
- 1. A checker brick comprising:
- a. spaced, substantially rectangular and parallel top and base surfaces;
- b. spaced side walls each extending from the top to the base surface;
- c. spaced end walls each having a generally trapezoidal shape, the end walls extending from side wall to side wall and from the top to the base surface; and
- d. a selected one of said top and base surfaces including at least two projections and the other of said top and base surfaces including at least two mounting recesses, said recesses and projections mating with the like projections and like recesses of other bricks when multiple bricks are stacked atop one another in an interlocking relationship, the total longitudinal center-to-center distances between projections and between recesses being at least equal to twice the distance from each projection and each recess to its nearest end wall.
- 2. The brick of claim 1 wherein the total longitudinal center-to-center distance between projections and between recesses is greater than twice the distance from each projection or recess to its nearest end wall.
- 3. The brick of claim wherein one of either said top or base includes at least four projections and the other of either said top or base includes at least four mounting recesses.
- 4. The brick of claim 1 wherein each side wall includes top and bottom sections respectively adjacent to and perpendicularly to the top and base surfaces and wherein each side wall includes a central section flaring outwardly and downwardly from its top to its bottom section.
- 5. The brick of claim 1 wherein each side wall is of generally planar configuration.
- 6. The brick of claim 1 wherein the projections form portions of the top surface and the recesses form portions of the base surface.
- 7. The brick of claim 1 wherein there are two projections and two recesses.
- 8. The brick of claim 1 wherein there are four projections and four recesses.
- 9. A checkerwork comprising:
- a. a plurality of bricks arranged in layers stacked one atop the other;
- b. each of the bricks being substantially trapezoidal in cross section and generally in the shape of a rectangular solid having top and bottom surfaces;
- c. each of the bricks having side walls including top and bottom sections respectively adjacent to and perpendicular to the top and bottom surfaces, the side walls also each including a central section flaring outwardly and downwardly from its top to its bottom section;
- d. selected ones of the surfaces including outwardly extending projections each mating with a recess in a brick in a contiguous layer;
- e. the other of the surfaces of each brick including recesses each mating with a projection of a brick in the other contiguous layer;
- f. the bricks of each layer being arranged in spaced rows with the rows of each layer being orthogonal to the rows of each contiguous layer; and
- g. the brick of each row being longitudinally aligned.
- 10. The checkerwork of claim 9 wherein at least a majority of the bricks of at least some of the layers are each spaced from all other bricks of the same layer.
- 11. The checkerwork of claim 10 wherein said at least some of the layers are a majority of the layers.
- 12. The checkerwork of claim 10 wherein the brick projections and recesses are provided in pairs and wherein each brick has at least one pair of each.
- 13. The checkerwork of claim 9 wherein the brick projections and recesses are provided in pairs and wherein each brick has at least one pair of each.
- 14. A checker brick comprising:
- a. spaced, substantially rectangular and parallel top and base surfaces;
- b. spaced side walls each extending from the top to the base surface;
- c. spaced end walls each having a generally trapezoidal shape, the end walls extending from side wall to side wall and from the top to the base surface;
- d. a selected one of said top and base surfaces including at least two projections and the other of said top and base surfaces including at least two mounting recesses, said recesses and projections mating with the like projections and like recesses of other bricks when multiple bricks are stacked atop one another in an interlocking relationship; and,
- e. each side wall including top and bottom sections respectively adjacent to and perpendicularly to the top and base surfaces, each side wall also including a central section flaring outwardly and downwardly from its top to its bottom section.
- 15. The brick of claim 14 wherein the projections form portions of the top surface and the recesses form portions of the base surface.
- 16. The brick of claim 14 wherein there are two projections and two recesses.
- 17. The brick of claim 14 wherein there are four projections and four recesses.
- 18. The checkerwork of claim 14 wherein the brick projections and recesses are provided in pairs and wherein each brick has at least one pair of each.
