Claims
- 1. A lean-to structure adapted for being supported against a supporting structure and comprising generally vertical and horizontal beams, said vertical beam being spaced from said supporting structure and said horizontal beam extending between and having a weight which is supported by said vertical beam and supporting structure, and interengaged means on said beams tending, in response to at least part of the weight of the horizontal beam, to urge the vertical beam to tilt towards said supporting structure, the beams having flat abutting end faces sloping downwardly towards said supporting structure and providing a vector of a force derived from the weight of the horizontal beam which tends to tilt the vertical beam away from said supporting structure, the interengaged means comprising a tongue-and-groove arrangement, said tongue extending from the flat end face of the horizontal beam and having a lower edge and said groove having a floor, said lower edge and floor being flat and in abutting relation and sloping downwardly away from the supporting structure, the vertical beam including upstanding and spaced parallel walls defining said groove and straddling said tongue.
- 2. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 comprising locking means to fasten the beams together.
- 3. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the tongue has a triangular profile and a rectangular cross-section.
- 4. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the locking means is a bolt extending through the horizontal beam and tongue and into the vertical beam.
- 5. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein said groove extends through the vertical beam.
- 6. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the horizontal beam has a lower edge coextensive with the lower edge of said tongue.
- 7. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein said horizontal beam and upstanding walls have angular end faces in abutting relation.
- 8. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the horizontal beam has a slope in the range of 5.degree.-75.degree..
- 9. A lean-to structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein said interengaged means respond to said weight to generate a vector of force to urge the vertical beam to tilt towards said supporting structure, the vectors being in opposed relationship and having a resultant horizontal component substantially expressed as
- W/2 (cos A-sin B)
- wherein W=effective weight of the horizontal beam;
- A=the angle of slope of the abutting faces of said beams; and
- B=the angle of slope of the lower edge of said tongue and said floor.
