Claims
- 7. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer roller for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer roller being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and a secondary transfer roller for secondarily tansferring the toner image from said intermediate transfer belt onto a recording medium, wherein said secondary transfer roller is adapted to be positioned in at least one of a first position in contact with said intermediate transfer belt and a second position away from said intermediate transfer belt, wherein said intermediate transfer belt has a joint, wherein when said secondary transfer roller contacts said intermediate transfer belt and secondary transfer is not taking place, a substantially constant electric field is applied in a direction in which toner is returned from said secondary transfer roller to said intermediate transfer belt, and wherein when said joint of said intermediate transfer belt is opposite to said secondary transfer roller, said secondary transfer roller is moved to said second position.
- 8. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and a secondary transfer roller for secondarily transferring the toner image onto a recording medium, wherein said intermediate transfer belt includes dispersed fluoric particulates at least in a surface layer thereof, and wherein said secondary transfer roller is pressed onto said intermediate transfer belt under a linear pressure of not more than 27 gf/mm.
- 12. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and a secondary transfer roller for secondarily transferring the toner image onto a recording medium, wherein toner is coated with an additive at a surface coverage of 2 or more, and wherein said secondary transfer roller is pressed onto said intermediate transfer belt under a linear pressure of no less than 15 gf/mm.
- 17. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, primary transfer means for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer means being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer means being disposed inside said intermediate transfer belt at a primary transfer position where the toner image formed on the photoconductive drum is primarily transferred, and secondary transfer means disposed outside said intermediate transfer belt at a secondary transfer position where the toner image is secondarily transferred, wherein a load of said secondary transfer means is larger than a load of said primary transfer means.
- 19. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, primary transfer means for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer means being disposed inside said intermediate transfer belt and in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and secondary transfer means disposed outside said intermediate transfer belt, wherein a hardness of said secondary transfer means is higher than a hardness of said primary transfer means.
- 21. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer member being disposed at a rear of said intermediate transfer belt, and a high-voltage power source for applying bias to said primary transfer member so that the toner image formed on the photoconductive drum is primarily transferred onto said intermediate transfer belt, wherein said primary transfer member has a resistance of 106 to 108 Ω, wherein said intermediate transfer belt has a surface resistivity of 106 to 1012 Ωcm and a volume resistivity of 108 to 1012 Ωcm, wherein said primary transfer position has a preset switching impedance value, and wherein said high-voltage power source uses constant-current control when impedance in said primary transfer position is greater than said preset switching impedance value, and uses constant-voltage control when said impedance is smaller than said present switching impedance value.
- 26. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium, a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer roller for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer roller being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, a backup roller disposed inside said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer member pressed upon said backup roller, and a high-voltage power source for applying bias to said secondary transfer member so that the primarily transfer toner image is secondarily transferred onto a recording medium, wherein said secondary transfer member has a resistance of 106 to 108 Ω, wherein said intermediate transfer belt has a surface resistivity of 108 to 1012 Ωcm, and a volume resistivity of 108 to 1012 Ωcm, wherein said secondary transfer position has a preset switching impedance value, and wherein said high-voltage power source uses constant-current control when impedance in said secondary transfer position is greater than said preset switching impedance value, and uses constant-voltage control when said impedance is smaller than said preset switching impedance value.
- 31. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium; and a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer member arranged at a rear of said intermediate transfer belt, a backup roller disposed inside said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer member pressed upon said backup roller, a high-voltage power source for applying bias to said secondary transfer member so that the primarily transferred toner image is secondarily transferred onto a recording medium, wherein said primary transfer member and said secondary transfer member are formed by an elastic body, and wherein variation of resistance of said secondary transfer member due to a change in at least one of an ambient temperature and humidity is larger than a corresponding variation of hi resistance of said primary transfer member due to said change in at least one of an ambient temperature and humidity.
- 34. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium; and a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member, disposed at a lateral edge portion of said intermediate transfer belt, for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, a high-voltage power source for applying bias to said primary transfer member so that the toner image formed on the photoconductive drum is primarily transferred onto said intermediate transfer belt, and a secondary transfer member, the toner image being secondarily transferred onto a recording medium by applying bias to said secondary transfer member, wherein a backup member in said primary transfer member is no greater than 1 MΩ, and wherein said high-voltage power source for applying bias to said primary transfer member makes current absorbable constant-voltage control.
- 35. (Amended) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium; and a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer member disposed at a lateral edge portion of said intermediate transfer belt, a high-voltage power source for applying bias to said primary transfer member so that the toner image formed on the photoconductive drum is primarily transferred onto said intermediate transfer belt, and a secondary transfer member, the toner image being secondarily transferred onto a recording medium by applying bias to said secondary transfer member, wherein a backup member in said primary transfer part is an elastic body, wherein a resistance value of said primary transfer member is no greater than 1 MΩ, wherein a resistor is connected in parallel to said high-voltage power source to maintain a positive primary transfer power source- current even if a current for enabling secondary transfer is larger than a current for enabling primary transfer when primary transfer and secondary transfer are executed simultaneously.
- 36. (New) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium; and a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer roller for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer roller being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer member being arranged at a lateral edge portion of said intermediate transfer belt, a backup roller disposed inside said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer member pressed upon said backup roller, and a high-voltage power source for applying bias to said secondary transfer member so that the primarily transferred toner image is secondarily transferred onto a recording medium, wherein said primary transfer member and said secondary transfer member are formed by an elastic body; and wherein variation of resistance of said secondary transfer member due to a change in at least one of an ambient temperature and humidity is larger than a corresponding variation of resistance of said primary transfer member due to said change in at least one of an ambient temperature and humidity.
- 37. (New) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium; and a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer member being disposed adjacent to a first portion of said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer member disposed adjacent to a second portion of said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer power source for applying bias to said secondary transfer member to secondarily transfer the toner image formed on said intermediate transfer belt onto a recording medium, wherein said primary transfer member and said secondary transfer member are formed by an elastic body; and wherein variation of resistance of said secondary transfer member due to a change in at least one of an ambient temperature and humidity is larger than a corresponding variation of resistance of said primary transfer member due to said change in at least one of an ambient temperature and humidity.
- 37. (New) An intermediate transfer unit comprising:
an intermediate transfer belt to which a toner image formed on a photoconductive drum is primarily transferred and which secondarily transfers the toner image onto a recording medium; and a driving roller for circulating said intermediate transfer belt, a primary transfer member for primarily transferring the toner image onto said intermediate transfer belt, said primary transfer member being disposed in the vicinity of said driving roller upstream thereof with regard to said circulating direction of said intermediate transfer belt, and said primary transfer member being disposed adjacent to a first portion of said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer member disposed adjacent to a second portion of said intermediate transfer belt, a secondary transfer power source for applying bias to said secondary transfer member to secondarily transfer the toner image formed on said intermediate transfer belt onto a recording medium, wherein a resistance value of said primary transfer member is no greater than 1 MΩ, and wherein a resistor is connected in parallel to said primary transfer power source to prevent deterioration of an image due to interference caused during simultaneous primary and secondary transfer.
