- 14. The guide as claimed in claim 13, wherein said blade portion further comprises a substantially funnel shaped top portion.
- 15. The guide as claimed in claim 13, wherein said first blade member forms an angle with said second blade member of between about 1 to 10 degrees.
- 16. The guide as claimed in claim 13, further comprising handles interconnected to said first and second blade members.
- 17. A guide for a retractor, comprising:
a blade portion comprising a first blade member and a second blade member, said first and second blade members including a shoulder and a front lateral portion, said shoulders and said front lateral portions thinning from a position at or near a proximal end of said blade portion to a position at or near a distal end of said blade portion.
- 18. The guide as claimed in claim 17, wherein said blade portion further comprises a substantially funnel shaped top portion.
- 19. The guide as claimed in claim 17, wherein said first blade member forms an angle with said second blade member of between about 1 to 10 degrees.
- 20. The guide as claimed in claim 17, further comprising handles interconnected to said first and second blade members, said handles separated from said blade portion by an angle of about 120 degrees.
- 21. In combination, a guide and a retractor comprising:
a guide comprising a blade portion including a first blade member and an apposed second blade member, at least one of said first blade member and said second blade member having a shoulder within an interior region that includes a slot, said shoulder having a tapered thickness from a proximal end of said blade portion to a position at or near a distal end of said blade portion, said first blade member forming an angle with said second blade member of between about 1 to 10 degrees when in a closed position; and a retractor comprising at least one retractor blade, said retractor blade operatively engageable with said slot.
- 22. The device as claimed in claim 21, wherein said blade portion further comprises a substantially funnel shaped top portion.
- 23. A guide for a retractor, comprising:
first and second members including a pair of spaced apart side flanges and a recessed interior surface between said side flanges, wherein a slot is formed upon pairing an inside edge of said first member with an inside edge of said second member, and wherein said slot is adapted for receiving the retractor therein.
- 24. The guide as claimed in claim 23, wherein and an exterior surface of said first member is substantially parallel with an exterior surface of said second member.
- 25. The guide as claimed in claim 23, wherein and an exterior surface of said first member forms an angle of between about 1 to 10 degrees with an exterior surface of said second member.
- 26. A guide for a retractor, comprising:
a blade portion comprising a first blade member and a second blade member, said blade portion having a V-shaped slot extending from a proximal end to a position at or near a distal end of said blade portion, said blade portion including a first blade member and an apposed second blade member, at least one of said first blade member and said second blade member having a shoulder, said shoulder having a tapered thickness from a proximal end of said blade portion to a position at or near a distal end of said blade portion, the first and second blade members having a width at a distal end of said blade members of between about 5 to 10 millimeters, the first and second blade members having a width at a proximal end of said blade members of between about 10 to 15 millimeters, wherein said first blade member forms an angle with said second blade member of between about 1 to 10 degrees, and wherein said slot is sized for receiving a distal end of the retractor.
