Claims
- 1. An internal combustion engine comprising:
- a combustion chamber defined by a cylinder, a cylinder head and a piston fitted in said cylinder;
- a main suction path having a suction port formed in said cylinder head and adapted to be opened and closed by a suction valve at an open end portion of said suction port, which is opened into said combustion chamber; and
- a sub-suction path provided separately of said main suction path and having an outlet end opened immediately upstream of said suction valve,
- wherein the improvement resides in that the outlet end of said sub-suction path is positioned within a sphere with its center being a spark point of an ignition plug and with the same diameter as the internal diameter of said cylinder, and within a range of .+-.1 mm from a plane which contains both the center line of a stem of said suction valve and a point of tangency along a valve facing circle of a valve seat of the suction valve through which a tanget line containing the spark point passes, said point of tangency being the point of tangency nearer a wall of the cylinder.
- 2. An internal combustion engine comprising:
- a combustion chamber defined by a cylinder having a circular wall, a cylinder head and a piston fitted within said cylinder;
- a main suction path in communication with the combustion chamber through a suction port in the cylinder head;
- a suction valve in the suction port adapted to open and close the main suction path, said suction valve comprising a valve body and a stem extending from said valve body said stem having an axis, and said suction valve cooperating with a valve seat positioned in the suction port, said valve seat having a substantially circular valve face directed toward the combustion chamber;
- a sub-suction path provided separately from the main suction path, said sub-suction path having an outlet end which opens immediately upstream of the suction valve;
- an exhaust port disposed opposite the suction port; and
- an ignition plug disposed between the suction port and the exhaust port, said ignition plug being provided with a spark point;
- wherein the outlet end of the sub-suction path is positioned within a sphere having its center at the spark point of the ignition plug, said sphere having a diameter equal to the diameter of the cylinder; and
- wherein the outlet end of the sub-suction path is within .+-.1 mm of an imaginary plane defined by a certain line and a certain point, said certain line being the axis of the stem of the suction valve and said certain point being a point of tangency along the circumference of the valve face through which a tangent line containing the spark point passes, said certain point being the point of tangency nearer the wall of the cylinder.
- 3. An internal combustion engine comprising:
- a combustion chamber defined by a cylinder having a circular wall, a cylinder head and a piston fitted within said cylinder;
- a main suction path in communication with the combustion chamber through a suction port in the cylinder head;
- a suction valve in the suction port adapted to open and close the main suction path, said suction valve comprising a valve body and a stem extending from said valve body said stem having an axis, and said suction valve cooperating with a valve seat positioned in the suction port, said valve seat having a substantially circular valve face directed toward the combustion chamber;
- a sub-suction path provided separately from the main suction path, said sub-suction path having an outlet end which opens immediately upstream of the suction valve;
- an ignition plug having its spark point within the cylinder;
- wherein the distance from the outlet end of the sub-suction path to the spark point is less than one-half of the diameter of the cylinder;
