Claims
- 1. A composition for prophylaxis or treatment of infections of the gastro-intestinal tract, comprising a conventional carrier and a strain of Lactobacillus having the ability to colonize human intestinal mucosa in vivo and having all the identifying characteristics of:
- Lactobacillus plantatum 299 DSM 6595, or
- Lactobacillus casei ssp rhamnosus 271 DSM 6594.
- 2. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said conventional carrier is an oatmeal based nutrient solution fermented by said Lactobacillus strain.
- 3. A method for prophylaxis or for the treatment of bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract, comprising administering a nutrient composition comprising a conventional carrier and a strain of Lactobacillus having the ability to colonize human intestinal mucosa in vivo and having all the identifying characteristics of:
- Lactobacillus plantatum 299 DSM 6595, or
- Lactobacillus casei ssp rhamnosus 271 DSM 6594.
