Claims
- 1. A method of producing a fixation member assembly to be bonded to an optic of in an intraocular lens comprising:
- exposing a lens bonding region of a fixation member component, which lens bonding region is to be bonded to the optic of the intraocular lens, to a plasma in the presence of at least one material selected from the group consisting of polymeric components, polymerizable components and mixtures thereof at conditions effective to form a polymeric coating located on said lens bonding region, the bondability between said lens bonding region with said polymeric coating located thereon and the optic of the intraocular lens of which it is to be a component is enhanced relative to a substantially identical lens bonding region which is not exposed to any plasma.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said polymeric coating is bonded to said lens bonding region and which further comprises, prior to exposing said lens bonding region to said plasma, exposing said lens bonding region to a preliminary plasma at conditions effective to enhance, relative to a substantially identical lens bonding region which is not subjected to said preliminary plasma exposing step, the bondability between said lens bonding region and said polymeric coating to be located on said lens bonding region.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one material is organic and only said lens bonding region of said fixation member component is subjected to said exposing.
- 4. The method of claim wherein said polymerizable components are selected from the group consisting of vinyl silanes, vinyl siloxanes hydride siloxanes, cyclic siloxanes, methacrylic acid esters, acrylic acid esters and mixtures thereof.
- 5. The method of claim 1 which, after exposing said lens bonding region to said plasma, further comprises exposing said lens bonding region with said polymeric coating locating thereon to a post-plasma at conditions effective to enhance, relative to a substantially identical polymeric coating-containing lens bonding region which is not subjected to said post-plasma exposing step, the bondability between said fixation member assembly and the optic of the intraocular lens.
- 6. The method of claim 2 which further comprises exposing said lens bonding region with said polymeric coating located thereon to a post-plasma at conditions effective to enhance, relative to a substantially identical polymeric coating-containing lens bonding region which is not subjected to said post-plasma exposing step, the bondability between said fixation member assembly and the optic of the intraocular lens.
- 7. A method of producing a fixation member assembly for to be bonded to an optic of an intraocular lens comprising:
- contacting a lens bonding region of a fixation member component, which lens bonding region is to be bonded to the optic of the intraocular lens, with at least one material selected from the group consisting of polymeric components, polymerizable components and mixtures thereof at conditions effective to coat at least a portion of said lens bonding region with said at least one material; and
- exposing said coated lens bonding region to a plasma at conditions effective to enhance, relative to a substantially identical coated lens bonding region which is not subjected to said exposing step, the bondability between said lens bonding region and a polymeric coating derived from said coating located on said lens bonding region and to form a polymeric coating on said lens bonding region.
- 8. The method of claim 7 wherein said polymerizable components are selected from the group consisting of vinyl silanes, hydride silanes, vinyl siloxanes hydride siloxanes, cyclic siloxanes and mixtures thereof.
- 9. A fixation member assembly produced in accordance with claim 1.
- 10. A fixation member assembly produced in accordance with claim 2.
- 11. A fixation member assembly produced in accordance with claim 5.
- 12. A fixation member assembly produced in accordance with claim 6.
- 13. A fixation member assembly produced in accordance with claim 7.
- 14. An intraocular lens comprising: an optic; and at least one fixation member assembly of claim 9.
- 15. An intraocular lens comprising: an optic; and at least one fixation member assembly of claim 10.
- 16. An intraocular lens comprising: an optic; and at least one fixation member assembly of claim 11.
- 17. An intraocular lens comprising: an optic; and at least one fixation member assembly of claim 12.
- 18. An intraocular lens comprising: an optic; and at least one fixation member assembly of claim 13.
- 19. The method of claim 1 wherein said polymeric components are selected from the group consisting of vinyl polymers, hydride polymers, silicone polymers, polymers derived from methacrylic acid esters, polymers derived from acrylic acid esters and mixtures thereof.
- 20. The method of claim 7 wherein said polymeric components are selected from the group consisting of vinyl polymers, hydride polymers, silicone polymers, polymers derived from methacrylic acid esters, polymers derived from acrylic acid esters and mixtures thereof.
