Claims
- 1. A bacterial virocidal tampon comprising an absorbent cellulose body with a gauze covering and an iodine treated polyurethane sponge means positioned within said body, said sponge means comprising a plurality of foam bits interspaced in said cellulose body containing iodine which is liberated into the human body in concentrations suitable to kill bacteria and protozoa and string means attached to said gauze covering to permit withdrawal of the tampon.
- 2. A bacterial virocidal tampon as claimed in claim 1 wherein said polyurethane sponge means is in the form of foam bits randomly placed in said cellulose body.
- 3. A bacterial virocidal tampon as claimed in claim 1 wherein said sponge means contains at least 40 mg of releasable iodine.
- 4. A bacterial virocidal tampon comprising an absorbent cellulose fiber body with a gauze covering and an iodine treated polyurethane sponge means comprising a unitary core member with a plurality of interspaced air bubbles complexed with at least 20 mg of releasable iodine positioned within said core member, said sponge means containing complexed iodine being adapted to be liberated into the human body when inserted therein in concentrations suitable to kill bacteria and protozoa.
- 5. A bacterial virocidal tampon as claimed in claim 4 wherein said sponge means has an iodine concentration ranging from 2 to 5 parts per million.
