Claims
- 1. A biocidal dressing for a wound, comprising fibers of nylon selected from the group consisting of nylon-6 and nylon-6,6 and combinations thereof, that have been complexed with iodine for a period of time sufficient to form a substantial percent of an iodophor complex with said nylon, said dressing, when subjected to aqueous solution, having an improved, slow release of iodine such as to mitigate the discomfort caused by said iodine to said wound.
- 2. A biocidal dressing as claimed in claim 1, in which said nylon is nylon-6,6.
- 3. A biocidal dressing as claimed in claim 1, in which said nylon is complexed with iodine in the form of a solution of potassium triiodide.
- 4. A biocidal dressing as claimed in claim 1, in which said nylon is complexed by immersion in a mixture of potassium triiodide and elemental iodine dissolved in an organic solvent.
- 5. A biocidal dressing as claimed in claim 1, in which said dressing is in the form of a suture or monofilament.
- 6. An antimicrobial product comprising fibers of nylon selected from the group consisting of nylon-6 and nylon-6,6 and combinations thereof, that have been complexed with iodine for a period of time substantial to form a substantial percent of an iodophor complex, with said nylon, said dressing, when subjected to aqueous solution, having an improved, slow release of iodine such as to mitigate the discomfort caused by said iodine to said wound dressing, said product being selected from the group consisting of water decontamination devices, air decontamination devices, biocidal face masks and biocidal socks.
- 7. An antimicrobial product comprising solid particles of nylon selected from the group consisting of nylon-6 and nylon-6,6 and combinations thereof, that have been complexed with iodine for a period of time sufficient to form a substantial percent of an iodophor complex with said nylon, said product being selected from the group consisting of door knobs, keyboard keys and telephone hand pets.
- 8. An antimicrobial product as claimed in claim 7, in which said solid particles are in the form of a powder prior to being made into said product.
- 9. An antimicrohial product as claimed in claim 7, in which said solid particles are in the form of pellets prior to being made into said product.
