Claims
- 1. A method for protecting finished latex paint films from fungal attack which comprises incorporating into the paint an effective amount of a compound of the formula:
- R--O--CH.sub.2 --C.tbd.CI
- wherein R is a 3-pyridyl radical.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound incorporated is of the formula: ##STR28## wherein: R.sub.1 is chosen from the group consisting of H,
- Cl and NH.sub.2 ; and
- R.sub.2 is H or CH.sub.3.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein the compound is incorporated in the liquid paint at a level of between 0.1% to 1.0%.
- 4. The method of claim 2 wherein the compound used is ##STR29##
- 5. The method of claim 2 wherein the compound used is ##STR30##
- 6. The method of claim 2 wherein the compound used is ##STR31##
- 7. The method of claim 2 wherein the compound used is ##STR32##
- 8. A mildew resistant latex paint comprising a compound of the formula: ##STR33## wherein: R.sub.1 is chosen from the group consisting of H, Cl, and NH.sub.2 ; and
- R.sub.2 is H or CH.sub.3,
- is an amount effective to inhibit the growth of mildew.
- 9. The paint of claim 8 wherein the concentration of the compound is about 0.1% to 1.0% of the liquid paint.
- 10. The paint of claim 8 wherein the concentration of the compound is between 0.2% and 0.7% of the liquid paint.
- 11. The paint of claim 10 wherein the compound used is ##STR34##
- 12. The paint of claim 10 wherein the compound used is ##STR35##
- 13. The paint of claim 10 wherein the compound used is ##STR36##
- 14. The paint of claim 10 wherein the compound used is ##STR37##
