Claims
- 1. An ion exchange membrane-containing chlor-alkali electrolysis cell characterized by having an ion-exchange membrane formed from a copolymer of
- (i) a vinyl ether monomer of the formula: ##STR19## wherein Y is selected from the group consisting of CF.sub.2 CN, CF.sub.2 CO.sub.2 R, CF.sub.2 CO.sub.2 H, CF.sub.2 CO.sub.2 M, CF.sub.2 CONH.sub.2 and CF.sub.2 CONR.sub.2 ; R is CH.sub.3 or C.sub.2 H.sub.5 ; n is an integer from 0 to 10; M is an alkali metal, ammonium or quaternary ammonium group, and
- (ii) at least one perfluorinated comonomer selected from the group consisting of tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene, perfluoroalkyvinyl ether wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and the vinyl ether, CF.sub.2 .dbd.CF[OCF.sub.2 CF(CF.sub.3)--.sub.m OCF.sub.2 CF.sub.2 SO.sub.2 F, where m is 1 or 2.
