Claims
- 1. A composition comprising:
- an optically active ionophore capable of forming an ionophore-ion complex comprising:
- an optically active isomer of bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dialkyl malonate, wherein one alkyl group is methyl and the second alkyl group has 4 to 20 carbon atoms;
- a suitable hydrophobic carrier; and
- a reporter substance capable of interacting with said ionophore-ion complex to produce a detectable response,
- said ionophore and said reporter substance being incorporated into said carrier.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein said ionophore comprises an optically active isomer of bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate.
- 3. A composition comprising:
- an optically active ionophore capable of forming an ionophore-ion complex selected from the group consisting of (R),(R)-(+) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate, (S),(S)-(-) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate and mixtures thereof;
- a suitable hydrophobic carrier; and
- a reporter substance capable of interacting with said ionophore-ion complex to produce a detectable response,
- said ionophore and said reporter substance being incorporated into said carrier.
- 4. The composition of claim 3 wherein said carrier is an organic polymeric solid.
- 5. The composition of claim 4 wherein said reporter substance is 7-(n-decyl)-2-methyl-4-(3',5'-dichlorophen-4'-one)-indonaphthol.
- 6. A composition comprising:
- an optically active ionophore capable of forming an ionophore-ion complex, selected from the group consisting of (R),(R)-(+) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate, (S), (S)-(-) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate and mixtures thereof;
- a suitable hydrophobic carrier; and
- a reporter substance comprising 7-(n-decyl)-2-methyl-4-(3',5'-dichlorophen-4'-one)indonaphthol,
- said ionophore and said reporter substance being incorporated into said carrier.
- 7. A test article comprising a suitable support carrying a test system comprising:
- a suitable hydrophobic carrier having incorporated therein
- an optically active ionophore capable of forming an ionophore-ion complex comprising an optically active isomer of bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dialkyl malonate, wherein one alkyl group is methyl and the second alkyl group has about 4 to about 20 carbon atoms, and
- a reporter substance capable of interacting with said ionophore-ion complex to produce a detectable response.
- 8. The test article of claim 7 wherein said support is paper.
- 9. The test article of claim 8 wherein said ionophore is selected from the group consisting of (R),(R)-(+) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dialkyl malonate, (S),(S)-(-) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dialkyl malonate and mixtures thereof.
- 10. The test article of claim 9 wherein said ionophore is selected from the group consisting of (R),(R)-(+) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate, (S),(S)-(-) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate and mixtures thereof.
- 11. The test article of claim 10 wherein said reporter compound is 7-(n-decyl)-2-methyl-4-(3',5'-dichlorophen-4'-one)-indonaphthol.
- 12. A test article comprising a suitable support carrying a test system comprising
- a suitable hydrophobic carrier having incorporated therein
- an optically active ionophore capable of forming an ionophore-ion complex selected from the group consisting of (R),(R)-(+) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate, (S),(S)-(-) bis (12-crown-4 methyl) dodecylmethyl malonate and mixtures thereof, and
- a reporter substance capable of interacting with said ionophore-ion complex to produce a detectable response.
- 13. The test articles of claim 12 wherein said reporter substance is 7-(n-decyl)-2-methyl-4-(3',5'-dichlorophen-4'-one)-indonaphthol.
