Claims
- 1. A method for the treatment of hepatic or nephritic disease in a patient requiring such treatment which comprises administering orally or para-orally to said patient an effective amount of at least one (16S) isocarbacyclin of the following formula: ##STR34## wherein R.sup.1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl group, a group --CH.sub.2 COOR.sup.11 in which R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl group or one equivalent of cation; R.sup.2 denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sup.3 denotes a straight chain or branched chain C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 alkyl group, a straight chain or branch chain C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkyl group substituted by an optionally substituted phenyl group, phenoxy group or a C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 cycloalkyl group, a straight chain or branched chain C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 alkenyl group, a straight chain or branched chain C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 alkynyl group, an optionally substituted C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 cycloalkyl group, an optionally substituted phenyl group or an optionally substituted phenoxy group; n is 1; and substituents for the above optionally substituted groups are a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a C.sub.2 -C.sub.7 acyloxy group, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group optionally substituted by a halogen atom, a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group optionally substituted by a halogen atom, a nitrile group, a carboxyl group or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy carbonyl group, and X and Y each is --CH.sub.2 or one of X and Y is an oxygen or sulfur atom and the other is --CH.sub.2 --.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.2 denotes a hydrogen atom.
- 3. A method according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 denotes a 2-methylhexyl group.
- 4. A method according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.2 denotes a methyl group.
- 5. A method according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.3 denotes an n-butyl group.
- 6. A method according to claim 1 wherein the isocarbacyclin is (16S)-15-deoxy-16-hydroxy-16-methyl-9-(O)-methano-.DELTA.6.sup.(9.alpha.) -prostaglandin I.sub.1.
- 7. A method according to claim 1 wherein R.sup.1 denotes a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, a t-butyl group or a carboxylmethyl group.
- 8. A method according to claim 1 wherein X and Y each is --CH.sub.2.
- 9. A method according to claim 1 wherein X is an oxygen or sulfur atom and Y is --CH.sub.2 --.
- 10. A method according to claim 1 wherein X is --CH.sub.2 -- and Y is an oxygen or sulfur atom.
