Claims
- 1. In an isomerization reaction between 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 and 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 in the presence of a catalyst at 80.degree. to 130.degree. C., the improvement comprising:
- conducting the isomerization reaction in the presence of a catalyst which is a combination of a copper compound or copper metal and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of 1,3-diphenylguanidine, di-o-tolylguanidine, glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride and 2-amino-4-chlorophenol with the proviso that when said copper compound is cuprous chloride, said additive cannot be 1,3-diphenylguanidine, di-o-tolylguanidine or mixtures thereof.
- 2. The reaction of claim 1 wherein the copper compound is cuprous chloride.
- 3. The reaction of claim 1 wherein the copper compound is cupric naphthenate or cupric acetate.
- 4. The reaction of claim 1 wherein the copper compound is combined with glycine ethyl ester hydrochloride and/or 2-amino-4-chlorophenol.
- 5. The reaction of claim 1, 2, 3, or 4 wherein 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 is isomerized to form 1,4-dichlorobutene-2.
- 6. The reaction of claim 1, 2, 3 or 4 wherein 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 is isomerized to form 3,4-dichlorobutene-1.
- 7. The reaction of claim 1, wherein the concentration of said copper compound relative to dichlorobutene reactant ranges from 0.05 to 2 wt.%.
- 8. The reaction of claim 7, wherein the concentration of said copper compound relative to dichlorobutene ranges from 0.10 to 1.0 wt.%.
- 9. The reaction of claim 1, wherein the concentration of said additive relative to dichlorobutene reactant ranges from 0.05 to 4 wt.%.
- 10. The reaction of claim 9, wherein the concentration of said additive relative to dichlorobutene ranges from 0.15 to 2 wt.%.
- 11. In an isomerization reaction between 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 and 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 in the presence of a catalyst at 80.degree. to 130.degree. C., the improvement comprising:
- conducting the isomerization reaction in the presence of a catalyst which is a combination of a copper compound and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of 1,3-diphenylguanidine and di-o-tolylguanidine with the proviso that said copper compound can not be cuprous chloride.
- 12. The reaction of claim 11, wherein said copper compound is cupric naphthenate or cupric acetate.
- 13. In an isomerization reaction between 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 and 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 in the presence of a catalyst at 80.degree. to 130.degree. C., the improvement comprising:
- conducting the isomerization reaction in the presence of a catalyst which is a combination of an organic copper compound and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of 1,3-diphenylguanidine and di-o-tolylguanidine.
