DESCRIPTION OF AN EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows an item display system 10 for removably displaying an item 11 that for example may be for sale in a store. In an example, the item display system 10 may be used to removably display several items relative to a wall (not shown) such that the displayed items 11 are disposed at locations spaced from and adjacent the wall.

In the present example, the item 11 is a deck of a skateboard, although it will be understood that any suitable item desired to be displayed, for example to prospective purchasers, is envisaged.

The item display system 10 includes 2 components, a first component 12 intended to be fixed to a support structure such as a wall, and a second component 14 that is capable of engaging with an item 11 to be displayed and that is engageable with and disengageable from the first component 12. In this way, it is possible to dispose the item 11 in a display position simply by engaging the second component 14 (attached to the item 11) with the first component 12 (for example attached to a wall), whilst enabling a person to more closely inspect the item by simply disengaging the second component 14 from the first component 12.

In the present example shown in FIG. 1, the item display system 10 provides a rack arrangement capable of removably holding a plurality of items 11, in this example a plurality of skateboard decks 11.

In the present example, the first component 12 is in the form of an elongate support part, shown more particularly in FIG. 2, that is fixable to a support structure such as a wall (not shown), and the second component 14 is in the form of an elongate item engagement part, shown more particularly in FIG. 3, that is fixable to a skateboard deck 11.

The first component 12 in this example includes an elongate support web 16 that supports a plurality of upwardly extending first engagement portions 18. Each first engagement portion 18 is arranged to facilitate engagement with a second component 14 such that the second component 14 is readily engageable with and disengageable from the first engagement portion 18. In the present example, each first engagement portion 18 is in the form of an upwardly extending elongate member, such as an elongate pin 18 fixed to the support web 16 in any suitable way, for example by welding, each elongate pin extending upwardly in a generally vertical direction during use.

In this example, the support web 16 includes an elongate primary web portion 20 to which the first engagement portions 18 are fixed, spacing webs 22 disposed at longitudinal ends of the primary web portion 20, and fixing webs 24 extending from respective spacing webs 22. The arrangement is such that the primary web portion 20 is generally parallel to the fixing webs 24 and spaced from the fixing webs 24 by the spacing webs 22. In this way, when the support web 16 is fixed to a support structure, the primary web portion 20 and thereby the first engagement portions 18 are disposed at a location adjacent and spaced from the support structure.

The fixing webs 26 may be fixed to the support structure in any suitable way, for example using apertures 26 and suitable fixing devices, such as screws (not shown).

The second component 14 in this example includes an attachment web 30 configured to attach to an item 11 desired to be displayed, in this example a skateboard deck 11, for example using apertures 32 and suitable fixing devices. The fixing devices may be conventional skateboard bolts and nuts (not shown) that are used to fix wheel trucks (not shown) to the deck 11.

The second component 14 also includes a second engagement portion 34 arranged to facilitate removable engagement of the second component 14 with a first engagement portion 18. The second engagement portion 34 comprises a sleeve, for example in the form of a pipe configured to slidably receive a first engagement portion 18 during use.

Each first engagement portion 18 may have a generally circular cross-sectional shape and the second engagement portion 34 may have a complimentary generally circular cross-sectional shape. In this way, the second component 14 is able to freely rotate relative to the first component 12 when the second engagement portion 34 is engaged with the first engagement portion 18. This enables a person to move second components 14 as necessary during use in order to view front and back sides of the deck 11.

However, it will be understood that alternative arrangements are possible. For example, the cross-sectional shapes of the first and second engagement portions 18, 34 may be any complimentary polygonal shape such that one or more possible relative positions are defined between the first and second engagement portions 18, 34, but the second engagement portion 34 is not able to freely rotate relative to the first engagement portion 18.

Furthermore, while the present invention is described in relation to first and second engagement portions in the form of upwardly extending elongate pins and sleeves that receive the elongate pins, it will be understood that any suitable first and second engagement portions that are readily engageable with and disengageable from each other are envisaged.

The second component 14 also includes a spacing web 36 extending between the attachment web 30 and the second engagement portion 34, the spacing web 36 serving to ensure that when the second component 14 is engaged with the first engagement portion 18, the attachment web 30 and thereby the item 11 are disposed at a sufficient distance from the support structure.

In the present example, the second component 14 also includes first, second and third offset webs 38, 40, 42 that serve to ensure that the attachment web 30 and the spacing web 36 are disposed in different, in this example generally parallel, planes. In this way, an item 11 attached to the attachment web 30 will sit at a spaced location from the spacing web 36. For example, when the item 11 is a deck of a skateboard, the deck will not contact the spacing web 36 even though the deck typically has a convex cross-sectional profile.

It will be understood that since the item display system 10 includes a plurality of first engagement portions 18, the item display system 10 is able to display a corresponding plurality of items 11 simply by engaging a plurality of second components 14 with respective first engagement portions 18, and a person is able to inspect an item 11 more closely simply by disengaging the relevant second component 14 from the first component 12.

It will also be understood that the item display system 10 facilitates space efficient display of multiple items, and is particularly useful for displaying multiple generally flat items, such as skateboard decks, where it is advantageous to enable a person to easily view both sides of the deck and remove the deck from display for closer inspection.

An alternative second component 50 is shown in FIG. 4. Like and similar features are indicated with like reference numerals.

The second component 50 includes the second component 14 shown in FIG. 3 and an attachment adapter 52, shown more particularly in FIG. 5.

The attachment adapter 52 includes a fixing part 54 that is attached during use to the attachment web 30 of the second component 14, and an engaging portion, in this example in the form of 2 projections 58, configured to removably engage with an item 11.

In the present example, the projections 58 and spacing between the projections 58 are configured so that a skateboard deck with attached wheel truck can be engaged with the second component 50 by disposing the projections between the wheel truck and deck with a central post of the wheel truck disposed between the projections. In this way, it is not necessary to fixedly attach the second component 14 to a deck 11, and instead a complete skateboard or skateboard with deck and wheel trucks can be displayed using the item display system by engaging the skateboard with the projections of the attachment adapter 52.

While the present embodiment is described in relation to display of a skateboard and/or skateboard deck, it will be understood that the item display system 10 may be used to display other items, the important aspect being that the second component 14 is engageable with the item 11 and the second component 14 is readily engageable with and disengageable from the first component 12.

In the present example, the first component 12 is formed of stronger material than the second components 14, 50 since the first component 12 is potentially required to support multiple items 11 but each second component 14, 50 is only required to support 1 item. For example, the first component 12 may be formed of steel material, and each second component 14, 50 is formed of aluminium material, although it will be understood that any suitable material is envisaged.
