This disclosure relates to a jewelry article, particularly with an extended chain and a fastener to provide an additional measure to prevent the jewelry article from falling from a wearer.
Jewelry articles such as bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and many other types have always been popular for men and women to display different clothing styles and identities. The composition of jewelry articles may be a single or mixture of chains, colored stones, pearls, metal balls, bands, beads, and the like. People may wear jewelry articles on their body parts by connecting one end to the other end of the jewelry through a fastener to a ring or by making a knot to maintain the position of the body parts. Nevertheless, wearing jewelry articles in this way may fall off from wearers because either the knot may loosen over time or the fastener or the ring may fail. Also, the wearer may intentionally or unintentionally stumble upon something that causes to break the knot or the fastener connection to break, causing the jewelry articles to fall off. Additional measures are needed to prevent the jewelry articles from failing without detracting from the appearance of the articles.
This need is met by the present invention. The following summary describes certain exemplary embodiments of the disclosure. It does not describe all such embodiments, and in no way should it be construed as limiting of embodiments of the disclosure.
In one embodiment, this disclosure provides a jewelry article for positioning circumferentially around a body part, wherein the article has a main segment configured to loop around the body part and having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a ring attached to the second end of the main segment, wherein the ring has a center opening; an extender for the main segment, configured to loop around the body part and having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein the first end of the main segment is attached to the second end of the extender and the first end of the extender passes through the center opening of the ring and extends beyond the ring, thereby providing a variable circumference loop defined by the distance between the ring and the location on the extender at which the extender passes through the opening of the ring; and a fastener attached to the first end of the extender; wherein the ring and the fastener are configured so that the fastener is larger than the opening of the ring and cannot pass through the ring opening, and the fastener is configured for removeable connection of the fastener to the extender or the ring.
Implementations of the disclosure may include one or more of the following optional features. In some embodiments, the main segment includes multiple precious or semi-precious stones. The main segment may be a bracelet or necklace. The main segment may be a wrist band for a watch or other wrist device. The main segment may be a metal band. The metal of the metal band may include a precious metal such as gold or silver. In some embodiments, the main segment includes multiple metal wire links connected to form a chain. The metal wire links may include a precious metal such as gold or silver. In some embodiments, the extender includes multiple metal wire links connected to form a chain. The metal wire links may include a precious metal such as gold or silver. In some embodiments, the main segment and extender include connected metal wire chain links identical in size and composition. The jewelry article may be configured as a wrist bracelet, ankle bracelet, necklace or belly chain.
In another embodiment, this disclosure provides a method of securing the jewelry article in the embodiment above around a body part by positioning the circumferential loop of the jewelry article around a body part for which it is configured; pulling the extender and the fastener of the jewelry article to draw more of the extender through the ring and shorten the loop circumference to a desired degree of snugness; doubling back the extender and fastener in the direction of the ring; and removably connecting the fastener to an opening on the extender closer to the ring, or to the ring itself, to which the fastener is configured to removably attach.
Implementations of the disclosure may include one or more of the following optional features. In some embodiments, the body part is a wrist, ankle, neck or waist. In some embodiments, the main segment and extender include connected metal wire chain links.
In another embodiment, this disclosure provides another jewelry article for positioning circumferentially around a body part, wherein the article has a main segment configured to loop around a body part and having a first end and a second end opposite the first end; an extender for the main segment, configured to loop around the body part and having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, wherein the first end of the main segment is attached to the second end of the extender; a fastener attached to the first end of the extender; and a ring attached to the second end of the main segment, said ring defining a center opening; wherein the extender and the fastener are configured to pass through the center opening of the ring, and the extender is configured for removeable connection of the fastener to the extender or the ring.
In another embodiment, this disclosure provides a method of securing the jewelry article in the embodiment above around a body part by positioning the jewelry article around a body part for which it is configured; passing the extender and the fastener of the jewelry article through the ring on the end of the main segment at the opposite end of the jewelry article; pulling the extender and the fastener of the jewelry article to draw more of the extender through the ring and shorten the loop circumference to a desired degree of snugness; doubling back the extender and fastener in the direction of the ring; and removably connecting the fastener to an opening on the extender closer to the ring, or to the ring itself, to which the fastener is configured to removably attach.
The following descriptions should not be considered limiting in any way. With reference to the accompanying drawings, like elements are numbered alike.
A detailed description of one or more embodiments of the disclosed apparatus and method are presented herein by way of exemplification and not limitation with reference to the Figures.
