Claims
- 1. A joist for use in a composite building system wherein the joist supports masonry blocks and becomes an integral part of the composite building system comprising:
- a lower metal chord having a first width and having a lower flange for supporting masonry blocks placed thereon;
- an upper chord having a second width including two spaced apart metal bar members parallel to one another, and
- a metal web member connected to and undulating between said lower and upper chords and being connected to said two parallel bar members which are spaced apart by the thickness of said web member so that the maximum combined transverse thickness of said two bar members and said web member serve to define said second width which is significantly narrower than said first width of said lower metal chord.
- 2. The joist of claim 1, wherein said lower flange includes two flanges extending in opposite directions of each other and orthogonal to said web member.
- 3. The joist of claim 2, wherein said two flanges are integrally connected by an impervious section so that flowable grout cannot flow between the two flanges.
- 4. The joist of claim 1, wherein said lower metal chord is a flat bar connected to said metal web member.
