Claims
- 1. A text reproducing apparatus for printing successive lines of text corresponding to information encoded on a storage means,
- said encoded information comprising a coded conditioning signal at a position on said storage means corresponding to the beginning of each of said lines, and a plurality of coded text reproducing signals corresponding to characters, words and character appearance information for each line to which one of said conditioning signals corresponds,
- said conditioning signal comprising a single code defining a combination of initial character appearance parameters including (i) case condition, (ii) boldness of print, and (iii) print-no print conditon;
- conditioning means responsive to said conditioning signal for establishing corresponding values of said parameters for text to be reproduced in each corresponding line; and
- text reproducing means responsive to said conditioning means and the text reproducing signals of a corresponding line to print a corresponding line of text the characters of which have an appearance initially defined by said established parameter values, and conforming to the character appearance information contained in said text reproducing signals.
- 2. A text reproducing apparatus for printing successive lines of text corresponding to information encoded in a storage means,
- said encoded information comprising a coded conditioning signal at a position on said storage means corresponding to the beginning of each of said lines, and a plurality of coded text reproducing signals corresponding to characters, words and character appearance information for each line to which one of said conditioning signals corresponds,
- said conditioning signal comprising a single code defining a combination of initial character appearance parameters;
- conditioning means responsive to said conditioning signal for establishing corresponding values of said parameters for text to be reproduced in each corresponding line; and
- text reproducing means responsive to said conditioning means and the text reproducing signals of a corresponding line to print a corresponding line of text the characters of which have an appearance initially defined by said established parameter values, and conforming to the character appearance information contained in said text reproducing signals.
- 3. A text reproducing apparatus for printing successive lines of text corresponding to information encoded on a storage means,
- said encoded information comprising a coded conditioning signal at a position on said storage means corresponding to each of said lines, and a plurality of coded text reproducing signals corresponding to characters, words and character appearance information for each line to which one of said conditioning signals corresponds,
- each of said conditioning signals comprising a single code defining a combination of initial character appearance parameters;
- conditioning means responsive to said conditioning signal for establishing corresponding values of said parameters for text to be reproduced in each corresponding line; and
- text reproducing means responsive to said conditioning means and the text reproducing signals of a corresponding line to print a corresponding line of text at least some of the characters of which have an appearance initially defined by said established parameter values, and conforming to the character appearance information contained in said text reproducing signals.
- 4. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 3, wherein said conditioning signal for each line of text defines the combination of character appearance parameters corresponding to the appearance parameters established at the end of the preceding line.
- 5. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 3 wherein said conditioning means comprises means responsive to determined second coded input signals for shifting the text function case condition of said printing means, whereby text may automatically be printed with upper or lower case characters.
- 6. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 3 comprising means for overriding said conditioning means.
- 7. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 6 wherein said overriding means comprises manually operable means for manually setting text function conditions for said reproducing apparatus.
- 8. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 7 wherein said overriding means comprises means responsive to a predetermined third coded input signal for automatically printing said text in a predetermined set of text function conditions except for conditions which have been set by said manually operable means.
- 9. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 3 wherein a said conditioning means comprises means for inhibiting printing of text, and said text reproducing means further comprises means for manually printing text.
- 10. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 3 comprising means for selectively printing text of different visual characteristics, said conditioning means comprising means for conditioning said means for selectively printing means to selectively print text of said different visual characteristics.
- 11. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 11 wherein said means for selectively printing means comprises a printer means operable for printing characters,
- a plurality of selectively operable means each of which is operable for printing a character determined by the operated one of said selectively operable means,
- a plurality of character circuits, decoder means responsive to said first coded text reproducing input signals for selectively coupleling said character circuits,
- a plurality of individual motivating means each connected with a respective one of said character circuits and being connected with respective ones of said selectively operable means for operating the respective one of said selectively operable means to print said character determined by the operated one of said selectively operable means, and
- said conditioning means comprises means for selectively controlling the operation of said individual motivating means to operate at times with more force and at other times with less force for causing said printer means to print the characters to bold and regular face, respectively.
- 12. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 11 wherein said conditioning means comprises resistor means and a bypass, said bypass causing said motivating means to operate the selectively operable means to print a character in bold face, said resistor means being connected to cause said motivating means to operate the selectively operable means to print a character in regular face, said conditioning means comprising means for selectively energizing said motivating means by way of said resistor means and said bypass.
- 13. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 3, wherein said conditioning means comprises means conditioning said apparatus to operate in six functional operating conditions, for printing in upper or lower case, for selectively printing in text of two different visual characteristics, and for selectively printing or inhibiting printing, said encoded information further comprising different coded signals for each of the six said functional operating conditions, said coded conditioning signals comprising different coded signals for the eight possible combinations of said six functional operating conditions, and said conditioning means conditioning said apparatus to perform the selected combination of said functional operating conditions.
- 14. The text reproducing apparatus of claim 13 comprising means for selectively overriding predetermined ones of said functional operating conditions.
- 15. A text reproducing apparatus operable in a plurality of combinations of settable conditions according to encoded information, said encoded information comprising text information, distinct settable conditions information and a plurality of combinations of said settable conditions information, and said apparatus comprising means responsive to said text information for reproducing text, said settable conditions information for setting the individual conditions of said apparatus and said combinations of said settable conditions information for simultaneously setting the apparatus in a combination of conditions.
