Kit for applying a decorative laminate to a target surface

Abstract

A kit provides implements for applying a decorative laminate to a target surface. The kit comprises an applicator adapted to hold a roll of surface covering material and to apply the surface covering material to a target surface. The kit also comprises instructions for the application of a surface covering material to the target surface.

Claims

1. A kit for applying a surface covering material, the kit comprising: a) an applicator adapted to hold a roll of surface covering material and to apply the surface covering material to a target surface,b) instructions for the application of a surface covering material to the target surface.

2. The kit according to claim 1 further comprising a second applicator adapted to hold and facilitate the application of a second roll of the surface covering material to the target surface, the second roll having a second width, wherein the second width is substantially different from the first width.

3. The kit according to claim 1 further comprising an application refinement implement adapted to facilitate the refining of the application of the surface covering material to the target surface.

4. The kit according to claim 1 further comprising a quantity of a backing sheet removal implement.

5. The kit according to claim 4 further comprising a dispenser to hold the quantity of backing sheet removal implement and to facilitate the separation of the quantity into discrete portions.

6. The kit according to claim 1 wherein the instructions comprise printed materials.

7. The kit according to claim 6 wherein the instructions comprise text and images.

8. The kit according to claim 1 wherein the instructions comprise data stored in a provided storage media element.

9. The kit according to claim 1 wherein the instructions comprise a reference to a network address.

10. The kit according to claim 1 wherein the instructions comprise a method for applying the surface covering material to an inside corner formed at the junction of a first surface and a second surface, the method comprising steps of: a) scribing a line on the first surface substantially parallel to a portion of the junction of the first and second surfaces, the line being spaced from the junction an amount less than the width of a roll of the surface covering material:b) applying a portion of the surface covering material to the first surface between the line and the junction, wherein one edge of the surface covering material is aligned with the line, and wherein the portion of surface covering material covers a portion of the second surface beyond the junction;c) smoothing the surface covering material on the first and second surfaces.

11. The kit according to claim 10 further comprising a scribing implement adapted to scribe the line substantially parallel to the junction.

12. The kit according to claim 1 further comprising at least one cleaning implement adapted to clean at least a portion of the applicator.

13. The kit according to claim 1 wherein the instructions comprise a seaming method for applying the surface covering material such that an edge of a first portion of the material abuts the edge of a second portion of the material.

14. The kit according to claim 13 wherein the seaming method comprises steps of: a) providing a quantity of a surface covering laminate, at least part of the surface covering laminate comprising a web material having a first side and a second side wherein the first side comprises an adhesive and wherein the second side is releasably joined to a release liner material,b) disposing the first side of a first portion of the surface covering laminate in contact with a surface to be covered,c) disposing the first side of a second portion of the surface covering laminate in contact with the surface to be covered such that at least a part of the second portion overlaps a part of the release liner of the first portion,d) removing the release liner from the second portion of the surface covering laminate,e) removing the release liner from the first portion of the surface covering laminate together with that part of the second portion which overlaps the first portion.

The kit according to claim 13 wherein the seaming method comprises steps of: a) providing a quantity of a surface covering laminate, at least part of the laminate comprising a web material having a first side and a second side wherein the first side comprises an adhesive and wherein the second side is releasably joined to a release liner material,b) disposing the first side of a first portion of the surface covering laminate in contact with a surface to be covered,c) placing the first side of a second portion of the surface covering laminate in contact with the surface to be covered such that at least a part of the second portion overlaps a part of the first portion,d) removing the release liner from the first portion of the surface covering laminate, wherein that part of the second portion of the surface covering laminate, including the second portion release liner, that overlaps the first portion is removed concurrently with the release liner of the first portion.

16. The kit according to claim 1 further comprising a carton adapted to hold all the component parts of the kit and having sufficient additional space to store a plurality of rolls of the surface covering material.

17. The kit according to claim 1 wherein the instructions comprise a method for the application of the surface covering material, the method comprising steps of: a) selecting a portion of the target surface that is substantially free of obstructions and corner areas,b) applying first portions of the surface covering material at the junction of the target surface and a second surface,c) applying second portions of the surface covering material from the first portions, over the target surface to a desired surface covering termination point.

18. The kit according to claim 1 further comprising a reference card, the reference card comprising surface covering material application instructions.
