People often keep their sponges and cleaning utensils around their sinks for easy use. Over time, persistent water dripping from sponges, cleaning utensils, dish soap, etc., will stain and/or damage a countertop, causing the kitchen area to look dilapidated.
A kitchen sink is configured with a built-in platform that provides a cleaner and more organized environment to prevent or at least reduce the impact of stains in the sink area. The back plate merges approximately two inches into the wall structure against which the sink is attached. Furthermore, the small and insignificant space behind the faucet is eliminated, often where water and residue get trapped. While a kitchen sink is discussed herein, the sink may alternatively be used in other scenarios, such as in industrial settings, bathrooms, etc. In typical implementations, the kitchen sink is comprised of stainless steel, but other metals or materials are also possible that may achieve the benefits described herein. The sink's PVD (physical vapor deposition) finish helps prevent stains, withstand high temperatures, and is scratch-resistant.
The sink includes a base surrounded by exterior walls on at least three sides. On the fourth side, on the rear interior portion of the sink, is the built-in platform comprising a vertical wall and a shelf extending from the vertical wall. The shelf may include various customizations, such as recesses or dividers that can be used for organization and storage, such as sponges, soap dispensers, and other cleaning utensils. The platform is positioned inside the sink, so the user does not need to store these items on the counter surrounding the sink. The platform extends to a back plate that forms the end of the sink. Up from the back plate is a slanted support that can be tucked inside a wall to seal against a structure, and the slant in the slanted support allows any splashed water to run down into the sink to even further provide a clean and tidy environment.
To limit buildup outside the sink, the kitchen sink is configured with a built-in platform to place cleaning utensils, dish soap, etc. The deep and wide sink provides adequate room for washing dishes, prepping ingredients, and soaking large pots and pans. Thus, the kitchen sink is adapted with a contemporary design that perfectly combines style, utility, and convenience. Specifically, the versatile design allows users to optimize their counter space while creating a practical and efficient workspace.
This Summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further described below in the Detailed Description. This Summary is not intended to identify key features or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used to determine the scope of the claimed subject matter. Furthermore, the claimed subject matter is not limited to implementations that solve any or all disadvantages noted in any part of this disclosure. These and various other features will be apparent from a reading of the following Detailed Description and a review of the associated drawings.
Like reference numerals indicate like elements in the drawings. Elements are not drawn to scale unless otherwise indicated.
The sink's platform 160 includes an opening 130 through which the sink's faucet (not shown) may be installed. Thus, the sink's faucet is positioned on the platform's shelf 145. Such a configuration makes the sink area more tidy and less inclined for messes or water spillage in unwanted places since the faucet is positioned inside the perimeter of the sink 105.
The perimeter of the sink 105 includes a flat perimeter 110 extending around three sides of the sink, and a back plate 150 extending upward from the platform's shelf 145. The flat perimeter 110 extends at least slightly beyond the exterior walls 115 to prevent water from entering between the walls and an external structure the sink is secured into and against. A slanted support 135 is configured and placed above the vertical back plate 150 to advance into the wall, done at installation so that if any water splashes in that direction, the water can trickle down back into the sink to facilitate a clean and water-free area. Slant portion 155 shows an end of the sink 105 to illustrate the slanted structure configured into the sink directly any splashed water from the sink's periphery to the sink itself. The slant portion 155 may form an acute angle at the upper portion of the slanted support 135. Otherwise, water and debris may build up behind the faucet, causing a less appealing and harder-to-clean area. With the current design, even if water from the faucet (positioned at the opening 130) causes any spillage, the spillage is contained within the sink and not on a kitchen countertop.
The flat perimeter 110 extends from the front to the rear of the sink 105, and slanted support 135 then extends upward from the flat perimeter. The flat perimeter extends slightly beyond the sink's front and left and right sides to provide a better seal against a countertop. In the rear, the flat perimeter is substantially aligned with the end of the sink, represented by the back plate 150, so that the sink can be positioned against a wall 405. The slanted support 135 may be positioned behind a wall, and any splashed water or debris would trickle downward inside the sink. The back plate and slanted support may be approximately two inches thick to provide sufficient surface area to be securely installed into and sealed with the wall. The slanted support is likewise substantially aligned with the end of the sink, primarily the back plate 150. Alternatively, the front of the slanted support may be in front of the back plate, on the inside of the sink, to ensure water runs off into the sink. Implementations in which the sink 105 is installed on an island, the back plate and slanted support may serve as a barrier in preventing water from splashing onto the floor.
Various embodiments are shown and described in the specification and drawings. In one exemplary embodiment, implemented is a sink with a built-in platform, comprising: a base; exterior walls positioned on a perimeter of the base and which form ends of the sink; a built-in platform positioned on a rear side of the sink and which is positioned between two of the exterior walls, wherein the built-in platform has a vertical wall that extends substantially vertically from the base, and the vertical wall extends to a shelf of the built-in platform; and a back plate which forms an end of the sink, wherein the built-in platform's shelf extends to the back plate.
In another example, the kitchen sink is a single unitary piece. As another example, the built-in platform touches both of the exterior walls it is positioned between. In another example, the built-in platform's shelf is at least partially horizontal. In a further example, a flat perimeter that extends substantially perpendicular to the exterior walls and is positioned on top of the exterior walls. In a further example, a slanted support positioned above the back plate and the flat perimeter, wherein the slanted support forms an acute angle at its upper portion to achieve runoff of water or other debris. As another example, a front portion of the slanted support is either aligned with the back plate or positioned in front of the back plate to enable water to drain into the sink.
Although the subject matter has been described in language specific to structural features and/or methodological acts, it is to be understood that the subject matter defined in the appended claims is not necessarily limited to the specific features or acts described above. Rather, the specific features and acts described above are disclosed as example forms of implementing the claims.
