Claims
- 1. A knotless suture anchor assembly comprising:
- a) a first anchor member assembly comprising a first anchor member having a first end and a second end, said first end of said first anchor member having a suture element attached thereto, wherein said suture element has a catch device located along its length;
- b) a second anchor member assembly comprising a second anchor member having a first end and a second end, said first end of said second anchor member having a suture element attached thereto, wherein said suture element has a stop means located along its length, wherein said second anchor member is passed through said at least one catch device of said first anchor member assembly until said stop means engages said catch device; and
- c) two hollow anchoring sleeves for installation and anchoring to a bone mass for receiving said first and second anchor members after said second anchor element has been passed through said catch device of said first anchor assembly member.
- 2. A knotless suture anchor assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first and second anchor members have exterior surfaces which are smooth, ribbed, threaded, beaded or expandable, for secure engagement of said anchor members with said hollow anchoring sleeves.
- 3. A knotless suture anchor assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said two hollow anchoring sleeves have exterior surfaces which are ribbed, threaded, pronged, or smooth, for secure engagement of said sleeves with said bone mass.
- 4. A knotless suture anchor assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said two hollow anchoring sleeves have interior surfaces which are ribbed, threaded, or smooth for secure engagement of said anchor members.
- 5. A knotless suture anchor assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein two hollow anchoring sleeves have a first end and a second end and a collar attached to said first end for flush engagement of said hollow anchoring sleeve with said bone mass.
- 6. A method for the attachment of tissue to a bone mass utilizing said assembly as claimed in claim 1 comprising the steps of:
- a) installing said two hollow anchoring sleeves in said bone mass;
- b) inserting said first anchor member into a first hollow anchoring sleeve which has been anchored to said bone mass;
- c) inserting said catch device through said tissue;
- d) threading said second anchor member of said second anchor member assembly through said catch device of said first said anchor member assembly so that said stop means of said second anchor member assembly flushly engages said catch device; and inserting
- e) said second anchor member of said second anchor member assembly into a second hollow anchoring sleeve for secure attachment of said tissue to said bone mass.
- 7. A method for attachment of tissue to a bone mass in accordance with claim 6 wherein said first and second anchor members are installed into said hollow anchoring sleeves prior to installation of said hollow anchoring sleeves into said bone mass.
- 8. A method for the attachment of tissue to a bone mass in accordance with claim 6 wherein said second anchor member is inserted through said tissue after insertion through said catch device and prior to insertion into said hollow anchoring means for resultant attachment of tissue to bone.
- 9. A method for the attachment of tissue to a bone mass utilizing said assembly as claimed in claim 1 comprising the steps of:
- a) installing said two hollow anchoring sleeves in said bone mass;
- b) inserting said first anchor member of said first anchor member assembly through said tissue;
- c) inserting said first anchor member into a first hollow anchoring sleeve which has been anchored to said bone mass;
- d) threading said second anchor member of said second anchor member assembly through said catch device of said first said anchor member assembly so that said stop means of said second anchor member assembly flushly engages said catch device;
- e) inserting said second anchor member of said second anchor member assembly into a second hollow anchoring sleeve; and
- f) ratcheting down said first and second anchor members into said first and second hollow anchoring sleeves to desired depths for secure attachment of said tissue to said bone mass.
