Claims
- 1. An anatomically, generally self-conforming sanitary napkin configured for partial labial disposition within the vestibule of a wearer and for at least partially occluding said vestibule respecting fluid flow therefrom, said sanitary napkin comprising:
- (a) a liquid-impermeable baffle;
- (b) a fluid absorbent positioned on said baffle and having a posterior region and an anterior region, said posterior region including a raised profile for projection within said vestibule intermediate the labia majora inwardly bounding same from a position porteriorly remote from the clitoris and extending to the rearward most aspect of said vestibule, and said anterior region merging with said posterior region for a generally external disposition about the vulvar region over said labia majora and spaced from said clitoris; and
- (c) a liquid permeable cover positioned over said absorbent and attached to said baffle, said cover having a physiologically hydrous characteristic such that when it is at a minimum moisture level during use, it has a moisture content at least eight times higher than a cover material constructed of a nonwoven, spunbounded material which does not have said physiologically hydrous characteristic.
- 2. The sanitary napkin of claim 1 wherein said cover comprises spunweaved polyester.
- 3. An anatomically, generally self-conforming sanitary napkin configured for partial labial disposition within the vestibule of a wearer and for at least partially occluding said vestibule respecting fluid flow therefrom, said sanitary napkin comprising:
- (a) a liquid-impermeable baffle;
- (b) a fluid absorbent positioned on said baffle, said absorbent containing a plurality of microfibrous batts and a posterior region and an anterior region, said posterior region including a raised profile for projection within said vestibule intermediate the labia majora inwardly bounding same from a position posteriorly remote from the clitoris and extending to the rearward most aspect of said vestibule, and said anterior region merging with said posterior region for a generally external disposition about the vulvar region over said labia majora and spaced from said clitoris;
- (c) a transfer layer positioned over said absorbent containing a blend of cellulosic and polymeric fibers having a nonwoven fabric integrity; and
- (d) a liquid permeable cover positioned over said transfer layer and attached to said baffle, said cover having a physiologically hydrous characteristic such that when it is at a minimum moisture level during use, it has a moisture content at least eight times higher than cover material constructed of a nonwoven, spunbounded material which does not have said phsiologically hydrous characteristics.
- 4. The sanitary napkin of claim 3 wherein said cover has the ability to rewick fluid from said absorbent after said minimum moisture level is reached thereby assuring that a suitable moist interface is maintained between itself and the tissues of the vestibule.
