Claims
- 1. A flooring consisting essentially of a concrete subflooring, a laminate adjacent to said concrete subflooring of a thin sheet of closed cell polyethylene foam having a thickness of 0.03 to 0.1 inches and a density of 1 to 5 pcf and a thin sheet of polyethylene film having a thickness of 1 to 5 mils adhered to said foam, and a laminate wood flooring adjacent to said foam-film laminate, the polyethylene film being in contact with the concrete subflooring and the polyethylene foam sheet being in contact with the laminate wood flooring, or the polyethylene film being in contact with the laminate wood flooring and the polyethylene foam sheet in contact with the concrete subflooring said polyethylene film sheet having a larger surface area than said polyethylene foam sheet, at least one edge of the polyethylene film sheet extending beyond the corresponding edge of the polyethylene foam sheet, wherein said at least one edge of polyethylene film sheet having a length such that it is capable of overlapping an adjacent foam-film sheet.
- 2. The flooring of claim 1 wherein the polyethylene film is composed of low density polyethylene, the polyethylene foam sheet is composed of low density polyethylene, and the polyethylene film and the polyethylene foam sheet are adhered together by a layer of low density polyethylene.
- 3. The flooring of claim 2 wherein the polyethylene foam sheet has a density of about 1.9 pcf to about 2.2 pcf.
- 4. The flooring of claim 1 wherein the polyethylene film is comprised of low density polyethylene.
- 5. The flooring of claim 4 wherein the polyethylene film has a thickness of about 5 mils.
- 6. The flooring of claim 1 wherein the polyethylene foam sheet is composed of low density polyethylene.
- 7. The flooring of claim 6 wherein the polyethylene foam sheet has a thickness of about 0.075 inch.
- 8. The flooring of claim 3 wherein the laminate wood flooring is in plank form, the planks fitting together in tongue-in-groove arrangement and being glued together.
- 9. A flooring consisting essentially of a concrete subflooring, a preexisting floor on the concrete subflooring, a laminate adjacent to said preexisting floor of a thin sheet of closed cell polyethylene foam having a thickness of 0.03 to 0.1 inches and a density of 1 to 5 pcf and a thin sheet of polyethylene film having a thickness of 1 to 5 mils adhered to said foam, and a laminate wood flooring adjacent to said foam-film laminate, the polyethylene film being in contact with the preexisting flooring and the polyethylene foam sheet being in contact with the laminate wood flooring or the polyethylene film being in contact with the laminate wood flooring and the polyethylene foam sheet in contact with the preexisting flooring, said polyethylene film sheet having a larger surface area than said polyethylene foam sheet, at least one edge of the polyethylene film sheet extending beyond the corresponding edge of the polyethylene foam sheet, wherein said at least one edge of polyethylene film sheet having a length such that it is capable of overlapping an adjacent foam-film sheet.
- 10. A flooring comprising a concrete subflooring, a laminate of a thin sheet of closed cell polyethylene foam having a thickness of 0.03 to 0.1 inches and a density of 1 to 5 pcf and a thin film of polyethylene having a thickness of 1 to 5 mils, and a laminate wood flooring, the polyethylene film being in contact with the concrete subflooring and the polyethylene foam sheet being in contact with the laminate wood flooring, or the polyethylene film being in contact with the laminate wood flooring and the polyethylene foam sheet in contact with the concrete subflooring, wherein the foam-film laminate is in the form of at least two adjacent strips, each strip having one side of the polyethylene film extending beyond the edge of the corresponding side of the polyethylene foam sheet and overlying the polyethylene film of the adjacent strip, and wherein a tape is located between the extended portion of the polyethylene film of a strip and the polyethylene film of the adjacent strip, the tape having a first adhesive layer on one side thereof and a second adhesive layer on the other side thereof, the first adhesive layer being adhered to the surface of the extended portion of the polyethylene film of a strip which faces the foam strip thereof and the second adhesive layer being adhered to the polyethylene film surface of the adjacent strip which contacts the extended portion of the polyethylene film of a strip.
