Claims
- 1. A laminated film article comprising
- (A) a base resin layer selected from the group consisting of crystalline 4-methylpentene-1 homopolymers and copolymers, said copolymers further including an .alpha.-olefin having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms;
- (B) an adhesive layer comprising a blend of (1) 89 to 98 weight percent of a copolymer of ethylene and 5 to 45 weight percent C.sub.1-6 alkyl ester of acrylic or methacrylic acid and having a melt index of 0.3 to 125 g/10 min and (2) 2 to 11 weight percent of a copolymer of propylene and ethylene selected from the group consisting of statistical ethylene-propylene copolymers containing from about 1 to 10 weight percent ethylene and having a melt flow rate less than 15 g/10 min. and impact ethylene-propylene copolymers containing from 5 to 30 weight percent ethylene and having a melt flow rate less than 15 g/10 min. and grafted with about 1 to 6 weight percent ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or derivative comonomer; and
- (C) a barrier layer comprising an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer; the layers (A), (B) and (C) being laminated to each other on adjacent opposing surfaces in the sequence indicated.
- 2. The laminated film article of claim 1 wherein the adhesive blend is comprised of 90 to 97 weight percent of a copolymer of ethylene with 10 to 35 weight percent C.sub.2-4 alkyl acrylate and having a melt index from 0.3 to 125 g/10 min. and blended together with a copolymer selected from the group consisting of 3 to 10 weight percent of a statistical copolymer of propylene and 1 to 6 weight percent ethylene, said statistical copolymer being grafted with 1.5 to 4 weight percent maleic anhydride and having a melt flow rate from about 200 to 500 g/10 min., and an impact copolymer of propylene and 6 to 16 weight percent ethylene, said impact copolymer being grafted with 1.5 to about 4 weight percent maleic anhydride and having a melt flow rate of 200 to 450 g/10 min.
- 3. The laminated film article of claim 2 wherein the base resin layer is poly-4-methylpentene-1 homopolymer having a melt flow rate from 2 to 100 g/10 min.
- 4. The laminated film article of claim 2 wherein the base resin layer is a copolymer of 4-methylpentene-1 with 5 to 10 mol percent 1-pentene or 1-hexene and having a melt flow rate from 2 to 100 g/10 min.
- 5. The laminated film article of claim 2 wherein the barrier resin layer is an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer containing 30 to 50 mol percent ethylene obtained by the saponification or hydrolysis of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.
- 6. The laminated film article of claim 2 further comprising a paperboard layer adjacent an outer surface of said to base resin layer (A).
- 7. The laminated of film article claim 6 further comprising a second adhesive layer and a second base resin layer, said second adhesive layer being applied to the barrier resin layer (C) on an outer surface thereof and providing an adhesive interlayer for barrier resin (C) and said second base resin layer.
- 8. The laminated film article of claim 2 further comprising a second adhesive layer and a paperboard layer adjacent to said second adhesive layer, said second adhesive layer being applied to barrier resin (C) on an outer surface thereof and providing an adhesive interlayer for barrier resin (C) and said paperboard layer.
