Claims
- 1. A method for prompting a user of a voice activated user interface, the method comprising:
pausing for a first predetermined interval after presentation of a label identifying a current menu state of the user interface; and presenting to the user a command option for the current menu state only when a command is not received from the user during the predetermined interval.
- 2. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
presenting the command option to the user among a first plurality of command options when the command option is presented to the user; and pausing for a second predetermined interval after presenting the first plurality of command options.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
presenting the command option to the user among a plurality of first command options and pausing thereafter for a second predetermined interval when the command option is presented to the user; and presenting a second command option to the user after the second predetermined interval only when a command is not received from the user during the second predetermined interval.
- 4. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
presenting the command option to the user among a first plurality of command options and pausing thereafter for a second predetermined interval when the command option is presented to the user; and presenting a plurality of second command options to the user after the second predetermined interval only when a command is not received from the user during the second predetermined interval.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:
presenting the command option to the user among a plurality of first command options and pausing thereafter for a second predetermined interval when the command option is presented to the user; and presenting a plurality of second command options to the user after the second predetermined interval only when a command is not received from the user during the second predetermined interval; wherein each of the second command options is less frequently used than each of the first command options.
- 6. A method according to claim 3, wherein the plurality of first command options includes fewer than five command options.
- 7. A method for prompting a user of a voice activated user interface, the method comprising:
reciting a first plurality of command options to the user and then pausing for a predetermined time interval; and reciting a second plurality of command options to the user when no response from the user is detected during the pause.
- 8. A method according to claim 7, wherein the first and second pluralities of command options each contains fewer than five command options.
- 9. A method according to claim 7, wherein the second plurality of command options is recited to the user only when no response is detected during the pause.
- 10. A method according to claim 7, further comprising:
reciting plural command options for the user interface in succession and pausing for a further predetermined time interval after a final command option is recited; and reciting a closure prompt to the user and pausing for an additional predetermined time interval after a final one of the plural command options is recited, when no response is received responsive to reciting the plural command options.
