- 7. The lariat of claim 5 wherein the core extends throughout the entire length of the rope body and each of the four twisted strands contains monofilaments having a total denier of about 108,000-132,000, the core contains monofilaments having a total denier of about 45,000-61,000 and the total denier of the monofilaments in the rope body is in the range of about 477,000-589,000.
- 8. The lariat of claim 6 wherein the rope body has a crown count of about 124-131 per yard.
- 9. The lariat of claim 7 wherein the rope body has a crown count of about 124-131 per yard.
- 10. A calf and steer roping lariat rope body comprising:
a) a structure throughout at least a critical length portion comprising a core in a center portion of a cross section of the rope body, said core comprising monofilament yarns with the total denier of monofilaments in the core being in the range of about 35,000 to 70,000, and three or more twisted strands wound around the core, said strands containing twisted monofilament yarns throughout a cross section of each strand and each strand having a denier in the range of about 97,000-145,000, the rope body of the lariat having a total denier of the monofilament yarns in at least the critical length portion of the rope body in the range of about 450,000-650,000. b) wax amoung at least some of the monofilaments in at least some of the monofilament yarns.
- 11. The lariat rope body of claim 8 wherein the core extends throughout the entire length of the rope body and each of the four twisted strands contains monofilaments having a total denier of about 104,000-137,000, the core contains monofilaments having a total denier of about 40,000-65,000 and the total denier of the monofilaments in the rope body is in the range of about 477,000-589,000.
- 12. A method of making a lariat rope body wherein three or more strands comprised of a plurality of twisted, plied, and/or cabled monofilament yarns are wound around a core in at least a critical portion of the rope at a winding site, the core being comprised of a plurality of monofilaments, the winding taking place while said rope is under tension and while a portion of each of the strands is under compression at the winding site, the strands having been made by twisting a bundle of said monofilament yarns under tension, and the strands are wound around each other in the portion of the rope containing no core, the critical portion of the rope being at leash about 68 percent of the total length of the rope.
- 13. The method of claim 18 wherein four or more strands are wound around the core or each other.
- 14. Rope-making apparatus comprised of:
a) a head box having three or more rotatable hooks, each of said hooks being equidistant from a point located within the confines of the hooks and defined by the intersection of two or more lines stretched between said hooks. b) a cross box, and c) a tail box.
- 15. Head box apparatus for use on a rope-making machine comprising three or more rotatable hooks, each of said hooks being equidistant from a centerpoint within an area bounded by the hooks and defined by the intersection of two or more lines stretched between the hooks.
- 16. Rope-making apparatus comprising:
a) a head box, b) a cross box having a cross with a hole in the center of the cross for allowing a core bundle to pass therethrough, said cross also having three or more members whose portions near the center of the cross taper down in diameter towards said center, and c) a tail box.
- 17. A tail box apparatus for making lariat rope, said tail box comprising a single tail hook.
